President Peter Obi regularly speaks about Character, Competence and Capacity.

Character is self-explanatory but I can’t seem to differentiate between the other two. Someone told me that they are the same thing.

Obi will confuse you if you don’t stay away from him

It's the same thing.

You may be ABLE to do something...competence but not have the MEANS to do it... capacity.


A man may have excellent football skills...competence but not have the means to play at the world cup because he has a knee injury... capacity.

If you put him there in a match, even though he has the competence, he does not have the capacity and so he will be useless. Just like Tinubu who has the competence to be a Nigeria president, but does not have the capacity because his memory is terrible.

Obi has shown no confidence, capacity or competence. He is a great liar of very dangerous repute. A very desperate politician who will do anything to get a position. Every time he said, go and verify. It was a lie. Only people were too hungry to. He left Anambra in deep poverty.

D two words seem synonymous, bt there stil exists dichotomy btw d two.

Given d fact dt no two English words mean exactly d same thing, in wich case, they can at best be nearest in meaning 2 each other!

Be dt as it may, Competence & Capacity, don't at all mean d same thing, although they can be synonymously used in some contexts!

Capacity: has 2 do wit someone's potentials, mental & physical abilities harnessed & harmonised 2 make informed decisions or choices 2 solving problems or aimed at accomplishing a given task, goal or objective!

On d other hand, Competence, has 2 do wit d quality of being able 2 effectively, efficiently & successfully implement d decisions made 2 actualised d set goal!

D distinction btw them is dt, one may be able 2 make decisions {capacity}, bt lacking d requisite skills to effectively & efficiently execute d decisions {competence}!

Satirically, Mr Capacity knows d road frm Abuja 2 Lagos, bt can't drive d car; thus, d service of Mr Competence wld be needed 2 professionally & successfully pilot d car 2 d right destination!
