Press Conference By Concerned Igbo Stakeholders by EquitableTech: 11:38pm On Mar 08, 2023
BEING TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE BY CONCERNED IGBO STAKEHOLDERS AT AIRPORT HOTEL, IKEJA LAGOS. TODAY, WEDNESDAY, 8TH OF MARCH, 2023.

Gentlemen of the press,

We welcone you all to this press conference put together to clarify where Ndigbo stand with regards to the up-coming gubernatorial and state assembly elections holding this Saturday and also to throw clarity to some issues that concern Ndigbo here in Lagos.

We, as Igbos living in Lagos made up of traditional rulers, market leaders, Market women, youths, civil society organizations, town unions and other categories of Igbo population in Lagos state as follows;

1. That we endorse and pledge support to the incumbent Governor of Lagos, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in his re-election bid. Our support for him is anchored on his performance, competence, cordial relationship with Igbos and his grand vision for Lagos, which has greatly favoured Igbos in the last four years.

Among all contestants for the tasking office of Lagos state Governor in the coming election, Sanwo-Olu is the best; tested and capable so we urge all Igbos to vote for him on Saturday for the continued benefits of Ndigbo.

2. We state unequivocally that Lagos is neither an Igbo State nor a no-man's land, as some provocatively state. Although Lagos was a former federal capital, it wholly belongs to Yorubas. We therefore dissociate ourselves from any claim that contravenes the fact that Lagos is a Yoruba state and emphatically state that Igbos are not subscribers to the weird position, marketed by mischief makers that Lagos is a no-man's land. And we pray that we may never use our mouths to say that Lagos is no man's land because Lagos is not a no-man's land. It is Yoruba land.

3. We state that a lot is at stake given the investment of our people in Lagos. Only a thoughtless tribe without minds of their own will toil with their destiny. Ndigbo will never toy with their destiny, their interests, their investment and their security in Lagos by going into any needless confrontation with the Yorubas who have been very accommodating, very hospitable and very cosmopolitan to Igbos in Lagos. While we thank the Yorubas for their understanding, we ask them to see those who want to instigate a fight between Yorubas and Igbos for their devious and selfish political interests, as not representing the Igbos as we urge Igbos to reciprocate this tolerance by voting for Sanwo-Olu and APC House of Assembly candidates this Saturday.

4. We want the Yorubas to Equally understand that In last week's presidential election, our son Peter Obi was on the ballot and that this generally drew the sentimental support of many Igbos, who voted for him. The result has shown that while majority Igbos voted for their son, majority Nigerians voted for our President-Elect. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While this is understandable, we urge the Yorubas not to see the voting pattern last Saturday as an act of hostility but of democratic choice. This Saturday, Nigerians will vote on the governorship, election and we see it as a great opportunity for Igbos in Lagos to show that we are not political enemies of the Yorubas by voting en mass for Gov. Sanwo-Olu as no Igboman is contesting for the governorship of Lagos. Igbo should show love to Yoruba by voting Gov Sanwo Olu

5. We note that our South East region is troubled and has become a hotbed of insecurity and not safe for Ndigbo for a long time now. In this period. Lagos has absorbed millions of Igbos and their businesses fleeing from the insecurity in the South East. Gov. Sanwo-Olu has been particularly accommodative and the Yorubas have been magnanimous in taking in these Igbos. The governorship election is a payback time and Igbos should be careful not to show themselves as hostile and aggressive guests to Yorubas as that will spell doom for millions of Igbos, living peacefully and safely in Lagos and doing their businesses without let or hindrance. Let us vote Sanwo-Olu because he represents the interests of all Lagosians.

6. We want to assure the Yorubas that Igbos are not greedy as to plot to take over Lagos as some miscreants and hoodlums intent on causing crisis, are saying. We want Yorubas to know that those provocative statements and boasts are not by true Igbos. That such expression of ingratitude are made to drive wedges between the harmonious understanding Igbos enjoy with Yorubas in Lagos for over a century now. We want to assure Yorubas that Igbos are very much committed to this beneficial relationship and would do nothing to harm it. We will use the next Saturday election to demonstrate our commitment to this understanding and further cement our relationship with the Yorubas by voting massively for Sanwo-Olu who we project to enjoy massive victory in the gubernatorial election this Saturday.

Concluding: We totally and unconditionally declare that Igbos in Lagos will come Saturday, vote for the re-election of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and APC state assembly candidates and we urge every Igbo man in Lagos to do so for our overall interest.

Thank you all for your time.

When would Nigerian politicians learn that Igbos are not represented by any body or group

If we are for you ...you don't need any body to tell you and trust me you won't need to spend a kobo
Even if all the political leaders in Igbo land are against you would still get max votes and support

And if we are against you then there is nothing you can do even if all the leaders politically or not are for you

When we see indifferent which is rarely the case is when such endorsement work

I love the content of the letter. I have never and will never give up on patriotic Nigerians of Igbo extraction. These are the ones who cherish the love and warm embrace of their Yoruba hosts.

It is no brainer that once Sanwo Olu wins by only the collective votes of the majority Yoruba, the Yorubav hawks will have more basis to push for policies that will drastically take away their privileges here that the Yoruba in Igboland do not enjoy. It is like insisting that every employment or privilege an Igbo brother or sister gets in Lagos will now be on the basis of exchange of same offer available to a Lagosian in the state of the beneficiary.

You appoint a commissioner from Abia, Abia state hires one Lagosian as a commissioner too. I think this is a fair way to help get opportunities for Yoruba in Igboland too.

If Lagos gives 50 slots of free education to Anambra indigenes, Anambra must do same to the Yoruba in Anambra too. When these pro rata exchanges happen, there will be value placed on the huge privileges Lagos gives out to our Igbo brothers and sisters for which it receives hate and bigotry in return.

Lagos must attract talents and help them grow by demanding that the states of origin of these beneficiaries give Lagos something in return to help her own indigenes in return in those states too. It becomes balanced. If you do not help Lagosians in your states, Lagos govt can use such arrangement to push them to start helping Lagosians in those states too.

What we have currently is not balanced at all and that was why some Igbo went far with the politics of lies, hate and bigotry. It is now time of reciprocity exchange of favours and privileges.

Peter, Kelvin and Chuma...the 3 of you are very useless!!

In a democratic nation, everybody is free to choose his or her own leader and thereby nobody has the rights to imposed anybody on the masses. There was no time the Igbos assembled round to endorse GRV, everything was done on individuals preference and it will remain that way while the best man wins...The Igbos will never twerk, asslick nor bow to any political intimidation coming from any corners.

Well, I guess that would be a very welcome Development because I have so many plots of land to sell around South East and I really do hope the Yorubas can come and patronize, because the few ones we have here are only interested in their agbo business and nothing more...!!

Just look at the rubbish you are vomiting, just one seaport around SE/SS will solve all this nonsense...

You can not arrogantly claim to be the host of Yoruba in their land and enjoy the benefit of an entitled visitor in Lagos without a single reciprocity to the Yoruba you mock and insult daily. It is a recipe for serious resentment of Igbo in Lagos.

It is fair to adopt reciprocity as a Lagos state and Southwest policy so that all these bigotry and hatred you show for the Yoruba will reduce if not stop.

I have listened to a few vexed Yoruba and that is why some stayed away from voting for Asiwaju, they believed he traded off the reciprocity in order to advance his personal political interest so they are demanding that if LASG give certain privileges to Igbo in Lagos there should be commensurate privilege given to Yoruba in Igboland too. Until this is done, the Yoruba will not stop feeling cheated and the bigotry and hatred caused by lack of gratitude on the part of some Igbo will not stop.

The Yoruba can be a Commissioner in Igboland too. A Femi should be able to move around to campaign to be Abia state governor like Mr Chinedu in Lagos too and you do not need to kill a fellow Igbo for celebrating the victory of a non-Igbo in Igboland. Nobody does that to Igbo in Yorubaland. So reciprocity is a fair and just demand.

For 8 years, Mr El Rufai has kept Yoruba in his cabinet and extended free govt services to non Hausa.Such a state is qualified for reciprocity in Lagos not states hostile to Yoruba and in fact, hate the Yoruba. Only in Igbo states do we not have other tribes in their states exco, ministries etc. It is not a balanced relationship and I see reason in the complaint of the Yoruba who feel cheated.

It is not sustainable. Since democracy returned in 1999, Lagos has given a lot yet not even a single state in Igboland has ever appointed a Yoruba into their exco. It has to stop and reciprocity will stop it. Even property acquisition, especially a finite resource like land, should henceforth be scrutinized and rationed to demand reciprocity from the states of origin of the Igbo resident applicant or so everyone will know their place and justice served.

Yoruba should not cheat Igbo and Igbo should not cheat Yoruba. Enough of this politics of lies, hate and bigotry every 4 years.

You guys are really not being honest with yourselves, your tribe remains the least nomadic in nature in terms of migrating from their geographical region to another, yet you want various appointments far away from home thereby neglecting reality on ground.

The South East for example is about 98% Igbo dominated zone, there haven't been anytime in history the zone was closed for non-indigenes not to come in and flourish, but people stayed away, because there are literally no federal agencies nor institutions nor any lucrative federal project situated in the zone due to marginalization, thereby limiting the zone from virtually attracting non-indigenes. Yet, you want the zone to call Femi all the way from Osogbo or Ogbomosho etc to come and take up appointment as commissioners, things doesn't work that way "you can only get drown when you present yourself to a river" But you all can continue living in denial...

My tribe are industrous people, after the civil war, they lost most of their properties, they literary started from the bottom, left South East zone for greener pastures, today most of them are successful traders and entrepreneurs. Suddenly, tongues started wagging all because they are buying properties in Lagos and are fully involved in electing who becomes the governor, their only crime was that they made a choice which is against the hosting community.

In Lagos, the Yorubas will always have the population to elect any leader why the fuss?? nobody is even dragging it with them, but some members of the hosting community seems unnecessarily intimidated due to inferiority complex and inconsequential hatred passed from parents to offsprings, some Igbos living in some areas of Lagos are treated with disdain but they have chested and endured (the few times I was in Lagos I experienced it first hand), there was never a time they would pick up weapons to fight the hosting communities like the constant clashes between the Yorubas and Hausa's, even after their means of livelihood are burnt down, they still move on as if nothing happened.

Don't you think it's high time the Yorubas tackle the government to grant the Igbos their wish of Biafra so that they can leave your land once and for all? Afterall, their presence is no longer needed so why holding them captive by depriving them of their rights to vote. I only blame those falling for that scam phrase "One Nigeria" when in all honesty and reality, we are never one, and can never be one due to the nature of deep-rooted tribalistic mindsets in most people...!!

Re: Press Conference By Concerned Igbo Stakeholders by Nobody: 6:07pm On Mar 09, 2023
Did I smell fear there?

The Igbo were the most privileged ethnicity even before they staged the first coup d'etat of January 15th 1966, yet they killed the creme de la creme of the other nationalities in cold blood just to possess all the privileges and advantages. Sardauna Ahmadu Bello and his wife, Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Chief Ladoke Akintola, Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh, Brigadier Samuel Ademulegun and his pregnant wife, Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, Colonel Ralph Shodeinde, Lt Col Kur Mohammed, Colonel James Pam, Lt Colonel Abogo Largema and some police officers. These were all murdered on Jan 15, 1966. Truth is, no Igbo officer or politician received as much as a scratch on his skin! Majority of Nigeria's current challenges have their origins from this coup.

The Igbo coupists ensured that the ceremonial president Nnamdi Azikiwe who's one of their own tribe travelled overseas on vacation before carrying out the coup.

Zik travelled on medical grounds in late 1965. In the aftermath of his treatment, his physician returned home, but he never did. Instead, he took a cruise ship round the Caribbean. How convenient! Ifeajuna and Zik were both from Onitsha. Do the maths, folks!

The good thing is, Captain Emmanuel Nwobosi acknowledged this before he passed away three years ago. He said they found out that Zik was informed about the coup by Major Ifeajuna, who was put in charge of Enugu operations by the coupists. Nwobosi was the man that led the hit squad to Akintola's house in Ibadan on Jan 15, 1966.

If wishes were horses, so this is the exact type of slavish ibos you want, hahaha, chai, you are looking for sheep in lions lare, good luck
