Governor Obaseki’s Health Reforms by Franklinadaz: 2:47am On Mar 10, 2023
Governor Godwin Obaseki has made tremendous achievements in the health sector and introduced several health reforms in Edo State. Here are some of his achievements in the healthcare sector.

1. Decentralizing healthcare provision and revamping Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state to provide quality healthcare services to the people, including the provision of equipment, drugs, and other necessary facilities.

2. Revitalization of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, which had been closed for over 10 years, with renovation and provision of modern facilities to improve the quality of training for nurses and midwives.

3. Ongoing upgrade and reconstruction of the School of Health technology.

4. Investment in Healthcare Infrastructure, including the upgrade and reconstruction of several hospitals, such as the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, to provide specialist services like renal care, cancer treatment, and dental care.

5. Immunization and Maternal and Child Health services have been prioritized, with the provision of vaccines for children and pregnant women, as well as equipment and trained health workers to improve the quality of maternal and child healthcare services.

6. Partnership with International Organizations to improve healthcare services, including training health workers and support for maternal and child health services. Partnerships include the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

7. Championing of the largest-ever medical mission in Nigeria by the Association of Nigeria Physicians in the Americas (ANPA).

8. Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, providing necessary equipment and facilities to manage the disease and establishing isolation and treatment centers.

9. Introduction of the Edo Healthcare Improvement Programme (EHIP) to provide affordable and accessible healthcare services, including the establishment of community health insurance schemes.

10. Establishment of the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (Edo-HIS) to cater to the health needs of workers in the state. Public servants on Edo-HIS only pay 10 percent of the total health cost in hospitals.

11. Provision of ambulances to improve emergency healthcare services and reduce mortality rates.
12. Establishment of the Edo State Hospital Management Board to manage and oversee the operations of all government-owned hospitals in the state.

13. Establishment of the Edo State Public Health Laboratory to improve the quality of laboratory services and enhance disease surveillance.

14. Provision of free maternal and child healthcare services to pregnant women and children under 5 years old.

15. Improvement of healthcare worker welfare, including the payment of hazard allowances during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the implementation of a unified salary structure for all healthcare workers in the state.

16. Implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme for healthcare workers in the state to enhance their retirement benefits.

17. Launching of the Edo Health Data Management System to improve health data collection, management, and analysis in the state.

To ensure the continuity of these giant strides in health reforms, a legislative arm that would support and work in synchrony with the executive and judicial arms is most required.

I, therefore, call on the good people of Edo to come out en masse on Saturday 18th, 2023, to cast their votes for all PDP House of Assembly candidates in Edo State to continue and sustain the developmental strides of this administration.

VOTE PDP
