Agberos, or street touts, are a common sight in Lagos. They are known for their aggressive tactics, which include extorting money from commercial drivers and harassing passengers and traders. Despite the fact that they are often associated with violence and criminal activity, agberos have become incredibly powerful in Lagos.

Here are some reasons why agberos have become so powerful in Lagos:

1. Political connections: Agberos have long been known to have ties to politicians in Lagos. These connections give them access to resources and protection from law enforcement. In return, agberos provide political parties with muscle and support during elections.

2. Control of transport unions: Agberos are often associated with transport unions, which they control through violence and intimidation. By controlling transport unions, agberos are able to extort money from drivers and passengers, which provides them with a steady stream of income.

3. Weak law enforcement: The Nigerian police force is often ineffective in dealing with agberos, who are known for their violent tactics. This weakness allows agberos to operate with impunity, further cementing their power in Lagos.

4. Lack of alternatives: In many parts of Lagos, the presence of agberos is seen as a necessary evil. They are often viewed as the only way to maintain order and security in areas where the government has failed to provide these services.

5. Poverty and unemployment: Lagos is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, and unemployment rates are high. Agberos often come from poor backgrounds and see their work as a means of survival. This has led to a situation where agberos are seen as an inevitable part of the urban landscape.

In Lagos, agberos have risen to prominence thanks to a mix of political ties, control over the transport unions, lax law enforcement, a lack of alternatives, and poverty and unemployment. Even though they are frequently linked to crime and violence, they have ingrained themselves significantly into the social and economic structure of the city. A multifaceted strategy that targets the underlying causes of their power and offers options for individuals who are already employed as agberos is necessary to address this issue.

Who empowered the agberos?
The same person that created them also empowered them to rule over the educated ones. It is time for us to turn the table upside down so that we can breath fresh air after this governorship election.
Eluu p from to bottom.

In Lagos, it's easier to dine and wine with a governor or an elected official as an agbero than for a graduate who works hard.

Thankfully, Ellu P is coming to correct those errors.. BVAS will be used this time.. so no place to hide..
