GSM IS NOT TO BLAME

It's baffling to hear people heaping the blame for the poor performance of the PDP candidates in the last presidential election on the person of Seyi Makinde. There is no doubt that everyone, not least Governor Makinde himself, felt bad at the outcome of that election.
But having said that, I think it is wrong to argue that the PDP's poor outing in the election was due to the relationship between Atiku and Makinde or to the so called Tinubu- tsunami. Arguing in that manner is underrating the political socialization of the OYO state electorates.
Oyo state voters are imbued with a high level of political awareness. They are not such that can be manipulated unduly. Once they have a convincing reason to follow you, no amount of backbiting can make them change their mind. So all those politicians trying to portray Governor Makinde in bad light are simply wasting their time.
Governor Makinde might not have offered direct support to Atiku campaign, but he did not campaign against him. As for the Oyo State NASS candidates, GSM was always found campaigning for them, raising their hands up everywhere he held rallies. That some of them lost the elections could not have been the handiwork of GSM. Other reasons must have contributed.
The achievement of the G5 governors in ensuring that the south produced the next president may not be appreciated now. They fought and won a just battle for the future of our country. History will certainly be on their side.
