Despite the directive to commercial banks to accept and dispense the old Naira notes, states push for contempt charges against Malami and Emefiele.

This is according to Abdulhakeem Mustapha, SAN, the lead counsel for the three states. He said that the press statement released by CBN for banks to accept the old Naira notes was a mere camouflage to give the impression of compliance.

However, the Supreme Court had extended the legal tender status of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes until December 31. The court ordered that the old notes shall remain legal tender till December 31. However, the President was slammed over his statement when he said only N200 old notes should remain legal tender.

Despite pressure from Nigerians, the AGF and the CBN governor failed to comply with the order.
