It was Zik that insisted that Lagos remain the federal capital and not to be included into the then western region.

This was because the British were set to handover the Lagos protectorate (the first British mandate on our shores) to western Nigeria .

Azikiwe went against this and insisted that Lagos must remain a neutral no mans land and the federal capital of the future independent state.

Awolowo then began a move to have western Nigeria (including Lagos) leave Nigeria as a totally separate independent nation.

Zik then cried to the British to arrest Awo and try him for treason against the crown .

The north will later support Zik over Lagos being the federal capital over their fears of being dependent on the western region for access to the sea.

The rest is history .

Now that Lagos is no longer the federal capital and now fully under the SW geopolitical region, Lagos has fully been reverted to its last indigenous owners - the Yoruba .

Let the heebo go to Abuja and drag it with Arewa .

There were 3 regions in Nigeria :

Southern Protectorate
Northern Protectorate
Lagos Protectorate .

Calabar was the first capital of Southern Nigeria and was the seat of the colonial govt until the outbreak of WW1 to which, fearing German Cameroon next door, Lugard moved the colonial office out of southern Nigeria (Calabar) to British Mandated Lagos colony.

Lagos was never the colonial capital of Nigeria . it remained a separate protectorate until Oct 1 , 1960 when it became the capital of Nigeria.

Now instead of Zik to concentrate on making Calabar (a coastal city with beautiful lagoons ) a rival to Lagos (which was Yoruba land) , Zik took the capital of eastern Nigeria from Calabar to Enugu purely on a selfish ethnic agenda.

There is nothing Lagos has that Calabar doesn't but Zik did not want the indigenes in calabar to benefit from having the capital of eastern Nigeria so he moved the capital in 1960 to Enugu - a then coal town in the heart of Heebo land. All developments in the eastern region was concentrated in Enugu even before 1960 owing to Zik's marginalization of the minority provinces and appropriation of their resources to develop only Enugu and other heebo provinces at the total detriment of minority areas . This was one of many reasons western Cameroon demanded to leave Nigeria in 1959 stating that they had become totally marginalized and neglected by the heebo dominated eastern Nigeria.

You can see now that western Cameroon leaving Nigeria was down to Zik and heebo greed, selfishness and ethnic chauvinism.

The blasphemy of Lagos being no mans land originated from Zik who was jealousy of Lagos falling into western Nigeria control .

I keep saying it that heebo foolishness is the bane of our problems as a nation.
