Following allegations that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was not used during the election in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended the collation of results from that region. Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the state collation officer for the governor's race in Enugu State, made the decision. Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 30350 votes, defeating Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP), who received 1855 votes, according to the results announced by the LGA's collation officer, Ogbene Nnaemeka in Nkanu East. "The INEC personnel argued that BVAS was not used, yet we are aware of what the Election Act states regarding BVAS's prohibited use. Thus, we are bringing this to your notice for your action".
