In Ramadan the doors of Heaven are opened and the doors of Hell are closed. If you know how to use this time properly, then only you will be able to take advantage of it. There are some things that you have to take care of, like you need to Niyat before fasting.

You should have some prayers like Sehri ki Dua to keep the fast and Roza Kholne ki Dua to break the fast. Allah will not accept your fast without prayers. Another such dua is the Taraweeh Dua which are recited in the middle of the Taraweeh Namaz.

In this month Allah had given Quran to the Prophet, so this month is special for Muslims. According to Islam, every Muslim should fast in Ramadan.
