I have had lots of experience job hunting those days and I don't intend to come across one again in my life;

I was invited to this organization for interview, for the position of Accountant,
During the interview, I met a panel of 5; 3 accountants, and 2 HR. After much questions as if I was vying for the office of the president of the country.

The next day I got a call around 1pm, I was already dressed in my native attire, running around to make survive.

I got this call it was the HR, demanding that I should come to the office immediately for my appointment letter, on getting there, I meet the Deputy CEO grin angry grin It's well ooo

This woman on seeing me, looked disappointed, because I could see the Expression on her face. She started another interview immediately, this time asking me questions about, when the company started existing, how many directors has served, I should mention the branches world wide.

Of course, I didn't do well, so she ask me to go, Immediately I was leaving I heard her asking, didn't so..so person come for this interview??, I over heard the HR saying, the person in question didn't meet the cut off:

She asked that the young man be called back. That was how, I lost the job, fear women, I pray I don't see that olosho woman again.

Pardon me if I deviate a little to ask if it is normal for a marketing company to slash staff salaries to 100% if an employee did not meet a certain percent of target given. In such a case what can the staff do?

Note:
This is not part of the agreement during employment.

I might just correct him . But I’ll hire him.
As an HR expert I would now he might not be a great team player but he is not also same of same . Might even go on to give new results cos he thinks differently.

Lmao, see the boldness. 😆

I feel like Hiring the guy and Firing him the day he will resume work.

Overconfidence has been one of the major reasons most people failed woefully in their academics and career.

I'm a content writer, check my signature for contact details.
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin Lol @ hiring and firing him on the same day. grin grin grin

You are right on the overconfidence part. One thing Nigerians need to know is sometimes the interviewer isn't after what you know but who you are. The interviewer may access candidates' personality not academic achievement. Being overconfident puts candidate off as unteachable, dictating and would not make a good team player. grin

It’s not oversabi .. when you hiring a candidate you look at a few things .. how well does the Candidate know about the company which he demonstrated, confidence which he exhibited. For me I will hire him.

Me: How good are you on the computer
Him: I am a guru on the computer
Me: What do you know about Chat GPT
Him: There are so many ways of chatting on the computer.
Me: Give me example with reference to chat GPT
Him: One example is when my company asked me to chat with GTB bank.

I believe the candidate in question should work on his communication skills. There is a part of the interview that ask what you can do differently to ensure the growth of the company. He can go on to state the obvious faults and give solutions . That way he wouldn't sound like he is putting the whole organization down or questioning the HR competence. He wouldn't come off as one who would pull others down to achieve a goal either or being a lone wolf.

All these things really matter. Candidates should learn to be professional. You don't have any business with whoever left the position or why. You can investigate the company and former employees in your spare time not during the interview.

I don’t think that’s quite possible though…

They must be some at least basic/minor form of interview maybe formal or informal.

You can’t just get someone on the street and say come and work for me.

Interview is just a way to know the person you would be working with potentially.

My 2 cents though!

you're right though. To at least get to know the person, that must happen actually.

HR jobs are overrated and useless, they just cash out on massive unemployment in the country.

Where was the HR role in the 70's and 80's when people graduate to get work almost immediately?

HR many times employ wrong set of people who they believe can answer general interview questions - those on the internet - against capable people who can actually do the job, especially, technical and engineering jobs.

Funny enough, people still get jobs in their companies without interviews, just because they know someone in those offices, yet HR will want to kill himself on new employees as if his company cannot sack him from his HR role.

Union Bank HR remain the best for me in terms of assessment. I pray I get there medical mail

His advice will be a disaster to any job seeker he advices...cos he will be like: Be bold, infact be the boss over the boss...interview them before they interview you😁.

This was mine. Went into the interview all confident . There were 2 people to conduct the interview the owner and HR person. So I answered all the technical questions and then they asked what will I do differently in this job than my previous one. I replied, I don’t walk around with baggage from past relationships so when I left , I left on good terms and returned the engagement ring. ( all items , documents, keys etc) .
Apparently, the owner ( female) just got divorced and didn’t like the answer.
Well, I didn’t care much for them either.
