Unpacking the Dynamics of Election Rigging in Ogun State: Causes, Consequences, and the Way Forward by Oludare Atinshola ( Former Ogun State Liaison Officer ASO)

As the world becomes more politically conscious, it is imperative that governments are held accountable for their actions. In recent times, there have been allegations of election rigging in Ogun State, Nigeria. The incumbent governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun has been accused of rigging the elections in his favor, and as such, his victory is being questioned.

There is ample evidence to suggest that the elections were not free and fair in Ogun State. Reports of voter intimidation, ballot box snatching, and vote-buying were widespread across the state. The opposition party has also accused the ruling party of using state resources to influence the outcome of the elections.

In addition to these accusations, there were also reports of irregularities during the collation of results. In some polling units, the number of votes cast exceeded the number of registered voters, suggesting that the results were manipulated.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also been accused of complicity in the rigging of the elections. There were reports of INEC officials colluding with the ruling party to manipulate the results in their favor.

Furthermore, the opposition party's agents were reportedly not allowed to monitor the voting process, which is a clear violation of electoral laws. This prevented them from effectively monitoring the elections and detecting any irregularities that might have occurred.

It is essential that we hold our leaders accountable for their actions. The rigging of elections undermines democracy and erodes the confidence of the people in the electoral process. The people of Ogun State deserve to have their voices heard and their votes counted.

In conclusion, the allegations of election rigging in Ogun State cannot be ignored. The incumbent governor's victory is being questioned, and there is ample evidence to suggest that the elections were not free and fair. It is the responsibility of the government, the electoral commission, and the international community to investigate these allegations thoroughly and ensure that justice is done. The people of Ogun State deserve nothing less than a fair and transparent electoral process. I remain Oludare Atinshola Former Liaison Officer and SW G16 Secretary
