WHAT REALLY MATTERS TO GOD?

Ebenezer Mabinuola

As creation of the uncreated one, we were made by Him for his pleasure.

When God created man, He gave man dominion. That dominion gave man the authority to wield total control over the earth realm. However, when man fell at the garden of Eden, man lost that dominion to the serpent.

Jesus Christ, the son of God had to come in the form of Adam (Man), to process the salvation of the fallen man and hitherto restore the dominion of the fallen man.

For man to then come into this recovered dominion, a man must receive salvation through Christ Jesus.

In all of these, only one thing matters to God.
It is important to know this because in today’s world, rapidly advancing and highly technological inclined, Christianity has been altered in several places by several people to blend with current changes in the world.

This is serious decline from God’s will. The gospel of salvation must not be subject to technological changes or societal changes. It remains constant all the time through ages and generations.

For example, in some Christian gatherings today, the emphasis on the material is far heightened compared to emphasis on the spiritual and eternal. Hence, many of the prayers in churches are usually tied to physical wealth, prosperity, wellness, cars, houses, finance etc.

When prayers are made for our needs, the atmosphere appears charged up and brightened. It just lit up. Imagine the pastor or preacher praying for God to bless the congregation with millions and even billions. The ‘amen’ is always resounding and applauses everywhere.

On the flip side, when someone leads the church in prayers for missionaries, spread of the gospel, salvation of the lost, growth of new converts, love among brethren, fervency in the things of God and for the kingdom of God to reign supreme on earth, the response is usually different.

Why is that?
The reason behind this isn’t far-fetched. The human mind works in a very wonderful way. Whatever you constantly feed it with becomes prevalent in its thoughts and then it translates into words and then actions.

It all starts with what the mind is fed with. So, from the pulpit, we often hear more of messages tied to prosperity of our souls here on earth with little less focus on that which is eternal.

God isn’t advocating for believers to be poor or wretched in any way. Far from it, God wants us to prosper here on earth as it will greatly influence the spread of His kingdom here on earth.

However, we must understand that the church building projects, conferences, financial seminars, convention, congress, summits not tied to God’s key agenda is mere activity and has no eternal consequence to the kingdom.

What does God want us to do?
God expects us as believers to do everything we do in honour of the kingdom and centre it around souls (God’s priority). We must do deep evaluation of our church activities. How does the seminars, retreats, summits, congress, conventions…etc align with God’s priority of souls (soul winning and growth).

As believers, our primary responsibility to God is to go after souls and ensure that through the right discipling, they are established and the cycle continues till we see the Lord in glory.
