ABUJA—Fresh indications emerged, yesterday, that Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, is set to follow its challenge of President Goodluck Jonathan’s election victory to the Supreme Court if need be, Vanguard can reveal.

The party also said it does not expect to get justice from the Court of Appeal in the face of the reconstitution of the panel hearing its petition.

To this end, the party plans to fight on all fronts as it is set to write letters to embassies intimating them of the latest development regarding its petition, alleging that the judiciary was being manipulated against it.

Also, a suggestion that the leadership of the party should send a delegation to prevail on former head of state and presidential candidate of the party in the 2011 election, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, to seek re-election for the presidency again in 2015, was stood down. General Buhari had vowed never to seek elective office again after he lost to Jonathan.

In addition, it was discovered that leaders of the party embarked on a nationwide reconciliation of its members in the wake of the internal frictions it experienced in the wake of the party’s primaries in some states – the committees which went round the six geo-political zones in the country is expected to turn in its report.

These were part of discussions at CPC’s national secretariat in Abuja, Tuesday.

In attendance at the meeting, which held at the party’s national chairman’s office were:

lPrince Tony Momoh- CPC National Chairman;

lMustapha Saliu- Deputy National Chairman;

lAbubakar Maikudi – Youth Leader;

lSadia Farouk Mohammed, – National Treasurer;

lAlhaji Gambo Ahmed ;

lAlhaji Gamuba Ghadi;

lBuba Galadima.

A popular former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, was also in attendance.

Vanguard learnt that “CPC has resolved to follow its litigation on the 2011 Presidential election Petitions before the Appeal Court Tribunal to its logical conclusion, even if it takes the party to the Supreme Court. He said contrary to insinuations in some sections of the media that the party is withdrawing the case from court, the party re-affirmed its position to sustain the case to its logical conclusion. This position was approved by the participants.

Speaking on the issue of the political and reconciliation Committees that toured the six (6) geo-political zones, it was resolved “that members of the Committees should endeavour to turn in their reports to the National Officials of the Party”.

The CPC also resolved “hat at any public Conference that the Party would be participating, the Party should raise the issue of the recent changes of Judges handling the 2011 Presidential election Petitions at the Appeal Court.

He added that a letter should also be written to all foreign Embassies in the Country intimating them of how the Judiciary is being manipulated; and that arising from this development, the CPC is not expecting any favourable verdict on the Petition. He re-iterated that the Party should write the Embassies detailing to them how the Judiciary has been used, as well as the falling state of insecurity in the Country, and that other issues of national importance should equally be included in the letter”

One of those in attendance at the meeting said that “if not for the suspension of Isa Ayo SALAMI (Justice) by the National Judicial Commission (NJC), and Mr. President, judgement on the Presidential election Petitions, would have been delivered on 19th September, 2011, which he believed would (have been) against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

If the CPC has no faith in the judiciary, they should withdraw their case from the courth & waste time & resources

Can't they distinguish the difference between Buhari as a person and CPC as a political party that went to court?
CPC should have listen to Buhari not to bother going to court after his previous experience of Nigerian judiciary's cash and carry justice.
