Early in the week, the president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan received a delegation from Ohaneze Ndigbo at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

The team was led by the Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and prominent in the delegation are distinguished Nigerians like the former vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim among many others.

The central crux of the visit was of course not the main item on the agenda of this piece but as a matter of introduction, it is important to restate the necessities of the cut throat competition for access and resources in a federal setting like Nigeria. As such the visit by the Igbo leaders in my view was essential and critical.

I am . . . . . (cut)

Those who mattered in the country thought otherwise and went ahead and elected Jonathan for a four-year mandate. One of the issues that tested the will and capacity of the president was, apart from the double-speak on numerous issues arising from the contention over his party's zoning policy, the October 1st, 2010 bombing which was followed by the staunch disassociation of MEND, a Niger Delta terrorist group which earlier claimed responsibility for the attack, by the president.

That was tactless and a sign of many things to come. After that episode, many other things happened that exposed the weakness of the president, and like his mentor Olusegun Obasanjo, one thing that has remained clear is that the president has become a matter of liability every time he speaks on sensitive national issues. At times, at irrelevant locations, the president throws one form of bombshell or the other.

The latest was the claim by the president when the Ndi Igbo paid him a visit this week where he made public his appreciation of the support that he got from the Igbo race during the 2011 fiasco which saw him through to the Villa on May 29th 2011. The president told the world shamelessly and unintelligently that it was the Igbos that voted for him in the North and not the Northerners. Literally, the president said that all the votes he got from the North were Igbo votes. . .

Aboki wetin they know?
If Igbo population is presumed to b 50 million, of which their voting population is projected to be abt 45 million - being a young n health tribe, so if the voting population is 45 million and only 9 million was recorded in the east what does that tell your aboki brain?

It means that 45- 9 million =36 million voter of Igbo extraction are outside igboland.

Also, Igbos constituting the second largest tribe in every state of the federation except in Abuja n Lagos where they are unofficially projected to number and constitute well over 40 n 46 % of the populace but constitute 45 n 49 % of the voting population since Igbo residing outside igboland are mostly the young and vibrant, who re more surreptitious n courageous to vote . Note, Nigerian election is not for the faint hearted. Aka Yorubas.

In fact I am of the opinion Igbo constitute over 50% of the voting population of the country and they are also strategically spread across the nation , thereby gathering enuff of the 25% bench Mark in every state except in Taraba n Berin kebbi.
