Chief Ayo Adebanjo is a Nigerian statesman, lawyer, and politician. He was born on April 10, 1928, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria. He is a prominent leader of the Yoruba ethnic group and a pro-democracy activist.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo is also a founding member of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere. He has been a consistent voice in the struggle for the recognition of human rights, democracy, and federalism in Nigeria.

He was a close associate of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a former Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, and played a key role in the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), which was founded by Awolowo. He has also been a member of several political parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alliance for Democracy (AD), and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Chief Ayo Adebanjo is known for his principled stand on issues affecting the Yoruba people and Nigeria as a whole. He has been a strong advocate of restructuring Nigeria to ensure a more equitable distribution of power and resources among the various regions of the country.
