Controversy has surrounded Saturday's supplementary governorship poll in Adamawa State over the declaration by Hudu Yunusa Ari, the then Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state.

All National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are currently in a closed-door meeting at the commission’s national headquarters in Abuja.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the electoral umpire directed its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa Ari, to stay away from all activities of the electoral umpire and the election in state.

The INEC REC had on Sunday stirred controversy when at about 9am he announced Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of Saturday’s supplementary election over the incumbent, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

INEC had immediately summoned Ari to Abuja and declared his announcement an invalid declaration and an usurpation of the powers of the collation and returning officer.

Before the collation exercise was suspended on Saturday night, results from 10 LGAs had been announced — and Binani was trailing Fintiri.

The collation of results from the remaining 10 LGAs was expected to commence by 11am on Sunday, and Mele Lamido, the returning officer for the Adamawa governorship election, was not present when Ari announced Binani as the winner of the election.

According to the constitution, Lamido is the rightful official empowered to declare the winner of the election.

Mahmmod Yakubu is the greatest disaster to ever happen to Nigeria's electoral process.

He has set a terrible bad precedence for elections in Nigeria and it will get worse with the type of character coming to continue from where Buhari is leaving. We may have likely kissed goodbye to credible, fair and free election.

Future elections will probably be based on the highest provider of bribery, corruption, thuggery, bigotry, violence and mayhem.

What the Adamawa REC did was exactly what Yakubu did at the presidential election. While Nigerians were asleep, he sneaked in and declared a winner while results were still being collated.

The REC learned well from his master, Yakubu. In both cases, there were allegations of bribery. The only difference is the amount of money and currency involved. The oga was paid in dollars while the apprentice was paid in Naira.

I just pity for INEC.. any decision you make we definitely cause unrest in Adamawa State. The REC who declared Binani winner should first be arrested before any amendment can be made. This Commission should be checkmate very well they are not ripe to be an independent commission. They have shattered our democracy and they are about to disrupt our peace. Every respected security agencies in Nigeria should investigate this commission called INEC.

Binani just disappointed many, she's no better than the others. Nah to answer name she wants to go and do there. If this is allowed to stand, then forget election and democracy in Nigeria. Next elections, thugs and militants will be announcing results.

Adamawa governorship election case is tricky. On one hand the REC is not empowered to declare her governor.

On the other hand the electoral 2022 as amended, the error of the REC declaring her as the governor elect can only be corrected by the Tribunal.

In conclusion, FINGERS CROSSED
