A DEAL, which is to get a suspected drug baron off the proverbial neck of the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has cost the state a princely sum of N180 million. It was brokered by a prominent member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the state. The deal is to get the wanted drug baron to drop a suit in which he is challenging the eligibility of Amosun for the Governor on the ground of alleged certificate forgery.

The contractor is wanted in the United States of America for drug deals over which some members of his gang have been jailed. He fled to Nigeria where he has continued to live big.

In the deal, the baron was to supply a “full option” Toyota Avensis car for each of the 24 members of the state House of Assembly at the rate of N5.99 million per unit.

He, however, supplied “basic” options of N4.8 million, and bilked the state of about N1.2 million in excess of the profit on each of the cars.

As part of the deal, the baron also supplied two Toyota Camry cars, one each for the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. He also supplied two Hiace buses and one Hilux Pick-Up van. The total cost of the contract is about N180 million.

The vehicles were brought from one Island Motors on Adetokunbo Ademola Street in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The drug baron is expected to drop his suit which alleges forgery in some of the certificates presented by Amosun to enable him contest the election.

Already, the deal is causing disaffection in the ruling party in the state, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Some prominent members of the ACN, and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) who defected into the ACN with Amosun for the purpose of the last election, are angry that such a huge contract eluded them and was given to a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It is learnt that the ACN members are spoiling for a showdown with Governor Amosun, who is currently out of the country.
The anger of the ACN members is, however, mellowed by the acknowledgement of the role played by the PDP BoT member who brokered the deal and the effect of the deal getting the drug baron off Amosun's back.

The ACN members, according to sources, admitted that the BoT member helped prop up a group of PDP members in Ogun State, which led to the factionalisation of the then ruling party in the state and the eventual emergence of Amosun's ACN as the government in power.

They also noted that the BoT member worked for the candidature of Amosun because, to him, “blood is thicker than water” since they both belong to a bloc in the state.

They are, however, displeased that the cars supplied were below specification, as they lacked such options as leather seats and navigation equipment.

These guys(Compass) are not using sense in their media opposition.
First, it was Aregbesola that they reported had Cancer, now Amosun is giving contract to a drug baron.
Even if there is an iota of truth in these reports, they are most unprofessional about it. They can learn from Sun and The Nation, which though owned by opposition politicians, are very moderate and professional in their attack of opponents.
Tribune, though still better than Compass, are also drifting towards this abyss.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters has also learned that the Nigerian Compass, a paper owned by former Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, is folding up. In a related development, Daily Independent, in which James Ibori, the embattled former governor of Delta State, has a major stake, is looking for a buyer.

Its not about Ibo, Ijaw or Itsekiri. Its about the credibility of the news sources. But seriously, you seem to have a victim mentality
