system21:The refinery I know is under serious rehabilitation recently. They were scheduled to come back on stream soon, but they couldn't achieve that, but they are working to resuming operations Secondly, removal of subsidy is likely coinciding with kick off of dangote's refinery So we will all be ok Las las Unless corruption continues. Whichever way we must live by the choices we made on Feb 25th 1 Like |

manutdrichie:Subsidy in the real sense of the word is not bad, but in the Nigerian context; it is an organized crime. The undiscerning masses do not know that Subsidy is not Nigeria's problem but corruption. For example, NNPC will tell you we consume ABC Litres of petrol daily; and then divert AB to other countries, whereas government has paid full Subsidy on ABC Litres. They turn around to make hue cry about Subsidy taking a vast proportion of our resources when citizens demand accountability. Only a corrupt-free government can save Nigeria. For those that think removal of Subsidy will solve Nigeria's woes, we will be here to laugh at our collective denial when they hijack the downstream sector to drive prices up. 1 Like |

manutdrichie:Oga Nigeria doesnt drill its oil. Nnpc doesnt drill oil, they only manage the crude oil assets for nigerians. Chevron and other oil giants drill oil, theu run business and pay taxes and royalties to nigeria. The refinery that nnpc owns was run like a political firm, thats why it couldnt run yearly maintenance on its facilities all these years. In all, even if nigeria has 100 refineries, chevron and co thag drills oil will only sell crude to them in Dollars. When u buy in dollars, u will only transact in dollars at the end of the day... Dangote refinery will get crude from any IOCs in dollars, it will have to meet up its loan repayment first before doing charity to nigerians.. The only differentials that will make a difference will be the transportation and shipping fee, but everyother fees will be added from nimasa, to SON and the rest fees importers pay |

Ikaeniyan0: The major presidential candidates promising to end subsidy is not enough. They should tell us what is in place to cushion that effect. We know these guys, they brought this cashless policy that we all supported, but implementation was the worst i have ever seen. Because i would have thought that the government was supposed to circulate enough lower denominations like the N10, N20, N50 and N100 to the system. But these guys did not put anything in place to help the masses |
Re: Lets Take A Little Time To Discuss This Subsidy Removal by Ikaeniyan0: 1:40pm On Apr 20, 2023 |
manutdrichie:Tinubu and Kwankwaso didnt support the cashless policy, only Obi and Atiku supported it among the major candidates. Well, I hope Tinubu will tell us how he's going to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal |

XY23: And the major issue isn't even the corruption per SE, but the misplacement of priorities. Between 2020 and 2023, the FG have spent in the region of not less than 7tn to subsidize petrol, this same amount of money if properly invested in infrastructure, education, healthcare and even energy would have changed alot of dynamics in the country. We are still paying year on year in a product whose impacts is not felt as desired while overlooking tangible projects and programs that could have propelled the country forward. Between 2010 and 2023, it can be assumed that subsidy gulped not less than 12tn, this amount is too huge for Nigeria's economy. The opportunity cost of fuel subsidy is development. Either fuel subsidy or development. It shouldn't have been like this (many analyst often cite other countries such as Saudi and UAE that hugely subsidize not just their energy needs but almost every fact of life - for starters, these countries run scholarship programs for people around the world, have highly subsidized healthcare and education and whatnot), but while those countries we're using their windfall to develop their future (from the 70s and 80s), Nigeria wasn't anywhere to be found. |

The government has always been so insensitive to the plight of the people, they are promising us palliatives, same palliatives that will be packed one place and refuse to distribute by the governors |
