Peter Obi was a very strong member of PDP and was really valued, to the point he was easily preferred vice candidate for Atiku Abubakar in the previous election.

However due to a disagreement on zoning, in that the party promised to zone the presidency to the SE for the 2023 elections but reneged on that promise, he decided to quit the party on the basis of integrity.

The party's presidential candidate was almost in tears when he said that Peter was in a hurry to leave the party. He would have been his overwhelming preferred choice for vice president and would have guaranteed a smooth return to power for the PDP.

Looking back, I think the worst enemy of the PDP is Nyesom Wike. Due to his hunger for power, he persuaded the party leaders to abandone their zoning policy with hope that he would be chosen after singlehandedly giving a northerner/middle beltan the party's chairman. Unfortunately for him, he lost the primaries to Atiku after Tambuwal stepped down for him. He selfishly then created the G5 to thwart the progress and success of the party in the general elections, even going further to rig for the ruling party.

Today, PDP is as good as dead and may be overtaken by Labour as the main opposition if something isn't done within the next four years.

The old SDP and NRC were dissolved by Gen. Sani Abacha. General Abdulsalami Abubakar lifted ban on creation of political parties in 1998 and that led to the creation of AD, PDP and NPP. Bola Tinubu is a pioneering member of AD. He didn't decamp from any party.

The SDP was revived recently by Chief Olu Falae and co.
