18th April 2023, INEC decided to write to the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and possibly prosecute the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari.

This decision was made after the REC announced Aisha 'Binani' Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the supplementary election in Adamawa, which was deemed invalid and a usurpation of the powers of the collation and returning officer.

The election was initially declared inconclusive by INEC on the ground that the number of cancelled votes exceeded the margin of lead between the two parties on March 18. However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri, emerged as the winner of the supplementary governorship election held on April 15th.
