An area in Lagos known as Adeniji-Tom Jones located at the mainland is looking as filthy as it has ever been. A resident of that area came on Twitter to lambast the chairman of that area who has done nothing, and the people of Lagos who keeps voting them to do nothing. Yeah, Lagos is still a slum, which is why I wonder how Tinubu and Fashola and co 'developed' the area. Still, if you want a good city, and let's be honest, Onitsha is also a slum, as are many cities in Nigeria (including in the North), you have to pay a level of tax that if Tinubu and Obi were charging such tax when they were governors, they would have been sacked in minutes. Nigerians keep complaining about how bad their cities are. But if the city authorities start charging heavy tax, start pulling down unsafe houses, and doing major construction work, we would start calling them harsh on the poor, and evil people. London looks like a nice city. It used to be a slum. The council tax ranges between 660000naira per annum to 2million naira per annum depending on the band you live in. Too much, yet that is why London looks good and is an internantional city, and Lagos , Onitsha and Abuja and Kano are backyard poor cities. |
