It has become the order of the day among many young Nigerians to get pets, either in the form of dogs, cats, rabbits, or birds in some cases. While this is great, I don’t think many of these pet owners understand the implications of having and caring for a pet. In countries like USA, UK, and Canada, they term acquiring a pet “Pet adoption”; that's how serious it is. Having a pet is equivalent to having a child. These countries have services and policies that protect these pets, similar to ‘child services’.

So to those who have pets and those who plan to have pets, while having pets is sweet and fun, it has its fair share of work. You have to provide them with proper care and attention. This includes a balanced and nutritious diet, ensuring they have access to fresh water at all times, and getting plenty of exercise - take them out to walk in the mornings and evenings. It's also important to keep up with their veterinary care, including regular check-ups and vaccinations. Regular grooming and hygiene practices are crucial to maintaining your pet's health and well-being.

It won’t be right to get a pet just to feed him garri and neglect it. If you aren’t ready for the responsibility, stay petless.
