Senate President, South East need it in order to balance the equation: Sen Ifeanyi Ubah.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on Monday maintained that the South-East region deserves the Senate Presidency seat despite the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) zoning the position to the South-South.

The lawmaker representing Anambra South argued that if the South-East produces the next leader of the upper lawmaking body, it would help in strengthening the unity of the country.

“For me and our people from the South-East, we are still very strong in contesting for the office of the Senate President of Nigeria for the 10th Senate. That is our position for now,” he said on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“So, in the course of consultation, we would continue to update Nigerians about our position. But for now, I am still in this studio, the position of the South-East caucus [of the Senate] is that we are going to contest for the Senate President of Nigeria.”

‘Balance the Equation’
His comment comes hours after the APC zoned the key leadership of the Senate, sidelining the South-East region which has been clamouring for the Senate Presidency to be zoned to the region.

Despite the move, Senator Ubah maintained that South-East senators have unanimously agreed that the position should come to the region.

“That is our position for now,” he said, listing Orji Kalu and Osita Izunaso as capable of taking the post.

He said lawmakers from the region will, however, meet to finalise plans to pick a candidate.

While the South-East gave the ruling APC the least votes in the 2023 presidential election, Senator Ubah argued that for the sake of fairness, there should be a “balance of the equation” in the distribution of key positions in Nigeria.

“I think after the presidential election, I think equity demands that we would sit down and look at every region because we are talking about Nigeria,” the lawmaker added.

“Nigeria is not divided on who brings the vote and who does not bring the vote. Are we not part of Nigeria?”

The south-south deserves it more...They have been an unifying force despite the fact that the region has been a mess lately, I think it's their turn to rule the Senate.

Giving out the post to Someone from the south-east makes no sense, No Anti-Nigeria groups or individuals deserve anything from Nigeria, till further notice.

Someone should tell this idiotic senators from the SE, that SP position might as well go to the SS, that have proven to be reliable allies over the past few years.

On top of that, Akpabio is our in-law.

Let us use the SP position to show the SS a little gratitude for sticking with us politically.

OUK is just a charlatan ally of Tinubu who is being used by Tinubu to destroy the SESS alliance.

Obi's eventual win at the tribunal is being facilitated by SS support. We mustn't forget that.

Every Igboman should feel free to throw OUK under the bus, on this issue, because he did not think twice in undermining Peter Obi during the presidential campaign season.

There's no such thing as southeast need it to balance anything. U don't wake up in ur house and just find food on ur table. It must have been that ur wife who prepared it whom u must have given money for it.

U have to work hard to earn something, nobody just take anything on d premise that they deserve it. No!

Southeast didn't work to be handed president of the Senate. The president has emerged and he has a constitutional authority to chose who work with him to deliver on his mandate.

No southeastern will make a friendly senate president to d president cos they are not patriotic in their ways. They will sabotage anything to play politics. Tinubu must succeed and we will not allow some disgruntled element to wreck that for us.

How can you get what you never worked for? If you don't work when others are working hard, you deserve no food or pity until you get sense. If APC decides to favour Biafrans with the position, fine; but they shouldn't talk it first; they have no right to ask for it. They can only be pitied to eat out of the crumbs if south-south says they don't need it anymore . They should learn and change from Nzogbu, Nzogbu politics in nearest future if they want to put mouth in Nigeria politics
