The 1988 Olympic 100M final in Seoul, Korea is no doubt the most controversial race ever in sport history. It is described by some as the dirtiest race in history, by others as the greatest. The race attracted headlines after four of the eight competitors broke the 10-second barrier and was won by Canada’s Ben Johnson, the reigning world champion and fastest man on the planet, who crossed the line in a new world record of 9.79sec.

However, Johnson tested positive for anabolic steroids and was stripped of his title. Carl Lewis of the United States, Johnson’s arc rival, who initially took the second spot was declared the winner.
