Anambra State Police Command has given an update on last Tuesday’s attack on the convoy of United States (US) Embassy officials in the state, revealing that it has arrested two persons in connection with the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, (CP) Echeng Echeng, said police operatives moved swiftly as soon as the Command got information of the attack.

He said they combed and raided a camp used by gunmen in the area and found that it had been totally deserted, but were able to arrest two persons, who, he hinted, are now helping police in their investigation.

He said the number of deaths recorded in the incident was seven. He listed the names of those killed as Jefferson Obayuwane, retired Department of State Service (DSS) personnel; Sunday Ubong, Ekene Nweke, Hassan Etila, Avwuvie Kaye Monday, Bukar Kabuiki (Police), Emmanuel Lukpata (Police), Friday Morgan (Police) and Adamu Andrew (Police).

The Commissioner lamented that the seven persons, including three US Consulate officials and four police escorts, were killed during the attack, while two other officials of the Consulate are yet to be found.

The police operatives are all of inspectorate rank and serve at Squadron 23, Police Mobile Force, Lagos.

Echeng noted that the bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited in a morgue, while the Command and other security agencies are working round-the-clock, in concert with the Anambra State government, to find and rescue the missing officials.

The CP said the arrested men have had their contacts traced through their phone conversation, and that the Command is gradually closing in on the killers.

Hear him: “Preliminary investigation conducted by the Command revealed that five officials of the US Consulate and four armed mobile police escorts from Lagos, on a mission to assess the impact of erosion in Ogbaru Council, were travelling in a convoy of two vehicles when they suddenly came under attack by armed men who targeted them with gunfire and set their vehicles ablaze.”

The wicked shall never go unpunished. The blood of the innocent amongst the entourage shall not cease to haunt the killers until they are captured to bear the consequences of their atrocious activities.

Guilty conscience, As we are aware, from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

Continue giving Nigeria a negative image, both home & abroad.

Seven people actually died in that event. Take that to heart. How you have concluded from a distance on the efforts of the police to get at who did this is disturbing.

They will try but will fail woefully. Igbos are like locomotive train. The more you try to stop them the more you hurt yourself.

How can a country be more concerned with 4 people killed in Anambra same week 85 people were killed in Plateau state. SHAME

Foolish question. Are you comparing Anambra to Jihadist enclaves?
