AFRICA WILL RISE BY IMPROVING PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS

Today, why is it that the lives of many Africans are filled with lack, with drudgery, and with suffering? I believe that a major reason is POOR PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS.

Where does this poor problem-solving orientation come from? I keep on saying this: CULTURE MATTERS! Some cultures promote problem-solving more than others, and the difference is seen.

In general, Africans are not asking enough questions from those in authority whether it is their parents, uncles, aunts, teachers, lecturers, doctors, pastors/priests, politicians, chiefs, or kings etc. We have a culture of equating respect for Elders with accepting or tolerating whatever they dish out. This respect for Elders has spilled out into venerating pastors/priests, esteeming traditional rulers, politicians and officials EVEN WHEN WE SEE OUR COUNTRIES WORSENING OR NOT IMPROVING. We must ask our Elders and pastors/priests, politicians, traditional rulers WHY is it that our environment is not improving, and WHAT is it they have ALREADY DONE to improve it, and HOW did they get it done!

Critical thinking means we MUST ask questions.

It is critical thinking that brings about PROBLEM SOLVING.

WHY? WHAT? HOW? WHEN? – These are four questions that Africans should apply to situations, and examine plus analyse how similar situations came about and got solved in other parts of the world.

When Africans improve PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS, Africa will automatically begin to rise.

This is very true and correct. Demanding answers from those in authority, wether Lecturers, elders etc is seen as a form of disrespect. Then we wonder why our political leaders appear arrogant and behave like they don't owe the people explanations for their actions.
