Congratulations to Nigeria, Lagos State, and Alh Dangote on the commissioning of the Dangote Refinery!

I cannot but wonder what explanation Ogun State has for not housing that project that sits pretty within our Ogun Development Master Plan with Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun Waterside!

It is time to have a law that punishes economic sabotage occasioned by bad politics!

No one should be allowed to set back a state on the altar of winning an election, which more than likely has queried integrity.

No state can make a steady process if that nonsense is not punished to prevent a repeat.

The cost of maintaining Governors is way too huge a price to pay, only for the state to now carry huge consequences of their myopic tantrums.

A law must be enacted to review and punish this type of economic and development sabotage. Never again.

Thank God Dangote did not take the project outside the country, which would have provoked me beyond words.

No one must be allowed to be irresponsible at the expense of all of us.

The immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, yesterday blamed the disagreement between former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, on the relocation of refinery from the border town between Ondo and Ogun states. Dangote refinery and fertilizer plants were parts of the businesses planned for the Olokola FTZ located in the border town between Ondo and Ogun states. The zone is an initiative of the Federal Government in conjunction with the two neighbouring states.

The immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has denied making demands from business mogul, Aliko Dangote which forced him to move its Dangote Refinery from the Olokola Free Trade Zone to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

Dangote had in 2013, announced plans to build a refinery at the Olokola Free Trade Zone which is jointly owned by the Ogun and Ondo state governments, but the plan failed to materialise, with the project moved to Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos.

Reacting through a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Digital Communications, John Paul Akinduro, Mimiko said only Dangote could explain why he decided to relocate the project.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has revealed that he was the Chairman of Olokola Free Trade Zone under the former administration when the State lost the $16b Dangote refinery to Lagos.

Abiodun said he was appointed by his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to oversee the Olokola Free Trade Zone where the said refinery was proposed to be sited.

He, however, expressed disappointment that the State could not achieve having the refinery sited in Olokola, due to what he called a break in discussion between the Amosun government and Dangote.

Though the governor did not state the roles he played in the discussion between Dangote and the immediate past administration, he said, “I worked as chairman of Olokola Free Trade Zone that was meant to have the Dangote refinery sited in Ogun Waterside, however, discussion broke down between Dangote and the then administration which led to the loss of that project to Lagos State; a sixteen billion dollars was lost to another State.”

According to him, Dangote had conceived siting the project in Ogun with the aim of not just refining crude oil, but to also take advantage of the mining lease he said had been awarded around the area but yet to be exploited.

Oh I just read somewhere that BUA is citing his refinery is Akwa Ibom state.
