Who compares a laptop with a phone? A laptop can perform more functions than a phone, things that a phone will only dream of. The only advantage a phone has is portability, long lasting and maybe one or 2 more. Tech guys understand what I mean, not all this yahoo boys that know nothing than iphone.

phones are better than laptop. A phone is very mobile, it has cellular network architecture. mobile phones support a variety of other services, such as text messaging, multimedia messagIng, email, Internet access (via LTE, 5G NR or Wi-Fi), short-range wireless communications. satellite access (navigation, messaging connectivity), business applications, video games and digital photography. A phone can do all these standalone. Now tell me if laptop systems can do all these by itself without any form of help or External support, emulator, USB dongles, WiFi, modem e.t.c

Depends on what appeals to one.
I can buy a device that's worth that price, a laptop these days is like exposing yourself to being robbed.

When once they notice the bag, you become a target.

I prefer something portable yet loaded.

They are many devices in that class.

If he’s going to be running heavy graphic-demanding tasks, then MacBooks are not fit for the job. Apple MacBooks aren’t cut out for such because they lack high-end graphic cards. Macs are for DJs, programmers and mild video editors

How on earth did some of you end up comparing a mobile phone to a laptop? Why ? How?
Originally, I’m not supposed to be having this conversation because it’s ridiculous but it’s just too annoying to ignore.
Firstly, a phone is called “mobile” for a reason which means it’s a portable telephony computer system. Even iPhone 14 promax can’t run some of the most basic things a laptop would run (excel, Corel draw and photoshop) excellently well. Imagine how stupid one would look comparing a basic Gtx 1650 mobile (mind you, I called it basic because it’s one of the lower end graphics) to the almighty A16 bionic on the flagship iPhone 14 promax?
The only advantage a mobile phone has over a laptop is the photography and portability which is also the only advantage a laptop has over desktop computers as the later can be upgraded indefinitely, meaning they are more powerful but can’t be moved about conveniently.
Like someone has said earlier, the world most powerful phones (gaming phones) cannot run any of the graphic-intensive tasks a laptop would execute easily because the are not even made for such.
Tell me a mobile phone that could run these tasks below without getting smoked
1. AutoCad
2.image and video rendering
3. 3D animations
4.machine learning
5. virtualization (e.g running/emulating a complete android system on a computer) meaning that I can make my laptop mimic and function like an android or an iPhone without you spotting any difference except photography. And even gaming (when I say gaming, I mean console-level gaming)
There’s more to laptops than just texting and doing yahoo o my dear friend grin

This should depend solely on what you want to be doing with it. If you’re a programmer or video editor, go for a MacBook Pro (avoid the Airs) but if you’re looking at going into deep graphics jobs like autoCad and rendering & animation, then avoid Macs and every “slim” /fancy laptops. The heavier and bulkier the laptop, the powerful its graphical prowess. Start looking at nothing less than an rtx 3070 (though an rtx 3050 is not bad)
A pc with an rtx 3070 should be somewhere around 750k-900k for the UK used and around 1.3 M for the new ones and of course, depending on the configuration (processor, ssd and ram size as well as the screen materials)
I’ll also advise that instead of getting a million Naira phone which will definitely become obsolete in a year time or even six weeks time if it’s a transsion grin, you will be much more satisfied if you get yourself good Nikon or canon Dslr plus a gaming laptop.

These things you mentioned are just basic things one needed to do on phone. Tell me which serious software developer uses phone for programming? If phones are better then we don't need laptop to install clean firmware on our phone other phone can just do it. There are a lot of things phones will never do.

If phones are better laptop would have been scrap off right now yet they still makes more powerful laptops to handle heavy task.

when I compared a smartphone to a laptop, I didn't classified it as general, to every rules, there are exception. I didn't say that all phones are better than laptops. There are exceptions, some phones are better and powerful in performances than some laptops, same way as some laptops are powerful than some smartphones. All these stuffs you mentioned here can only be handled smoothly by latest or recent and graphics intensive laptops like a mobile workstation or gaming laptop. Tell me Can older laptops of year 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 or 2013 with basic old Intel integrated graphics do those tasks, when some smartphones actually even have more powerful graphics to play smoothly some high encoded videos these older laptops can't even play or play smoothly. Can these old laptops run virtualization on them. Not even All laptops can perform all these stuffs you wrote down, each laptops has its own specific hardware limitations, like it's graphics type, processor, clock frequency, RAM supports, etc. Though average laptops will run most basic softwares which is normal, Microsoft word, excel, notepad e.t.c and FYI Not All laptops can run graphics demanding softwares, like Autocad, except maybe very old version of Autocad, Revit, Archicad, csc Photoshop, coreldraw even graphics demanding games. Some laptops are even so outdated that it can't run recent operating systems like windows 10, 11. Whereas modern and latest smartphones are more advanced and Smarter than an average laptops. Only more recent and powerful laptops with high-end chips can matched up and more with todays standards of smartphones.

You are still not making sense sir. Fine, let’s stop talking about high-end graphic chips but mind you, the Gtx 1650 that I mentioned earlier is not even a midrange graphics, it’s an entry level card. Now I’ll take you to what a dell latitude 3340 i5 can do. This 2013-14 entry level dell laptop, with an integrated intel HD 4400 graphics can handle GTA 5, yes, it plays Grand Theft Auto 5 and photoshop CS6 (at least speaking from my own personal experience) now tell me which high-end mobile phone can run gta 5 without getting smoked grin I don’t even think it’s been made available for a mobile phone chipset to start with. How do you expect a mobile phone to play an almost 60GB-sized game? How exactly do you want them to compress it?
I can’t even believe I’m having this discussion because it’s too ridiculous my friend. Also kindly show me a mobile phone today that can successfully install and run photoshop CS6 and the bridge (at least these are not graphic-intensive like Video rendering and the other tasks I listed in my first comment. I don’t think any tech-exposed person should be having this argument at all grin Phones are not even made for these purposes to start with.

I didn't say phones were made for those purposes you mentioned, what I'm trying to explain to you is that, smartphones are more better in terms of it's everyday general usefulness than a laptop, laptop are useful for professionals, work purposes, project, school, business and others. Phones have its class, value and features, some features in some smartphones are not even in laptops. phones has some technology, not incorporated in laptops, same as laptop, it doesn't matter whatever software the laptop could run, laptops runs majorly on the windows Os, so it should be able to execute programs, meant for windows compared to an Android Os. it shouldn't be compared. How much do you bought your Dell latitude 3340, core i5, 500gb HDD, maybe 4gb ram, probably a UK used system. Compare it to how much an iphone 14 pro is being sold or Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra , and see how many Dell latitude 3340, I go buy from it. If laptops are that better than phone, then laptops are supposed to be more expensive than phones, why are some phones so expensive than laptops? Since you claim laptops are better and powerful than phones.

am sure your latitude 3340, i5 4th generation, can't be sold for less than a 100k, maybe highest 120k. Compare to phones of 900k+. So you now believe people will still agree with you that 100k laptop is better than almost a million phones. No matter what the functions the laptop could do. If you want to compare phones with laptop, let it be a high-end laptops like the latest MacBook pro

My friend, again you’re still not making sense with all due respect. In your previous comment, you argued that I shouldn’t bring in high-end graphics cards and laptop into the argument and I went ahead to pick a 78 thousand naira laptop (bought it in 2021) just to prove to you that me mentioning high-end/midrange graphics card laptop was even an overkill.
I mentioned that latitude 3340 made in 2014 and with an horrible, entry level intel hd 4400 just to prove to you that it would still run stuffs that even a thousand dollars IPhone 14 PM’s A16 wouldn’t be able to run and you’re still here arguing and asking me how the laptop is better when it’s not as expensive as the phone grin You’re confusing me my friend grin
Again, your laptop can imitate a whole android OP using emulators like Bluestack and Leapdroid but the reverse can’t happen. No android phone can install windows operating system (I’m not taking about launchers here grin)
Also your argument is now that since an iPhone is more expensive than the latitude I presented, automatically, the iPhone becomes the more powerful and somehow, that made sense to yougrin
Going by your logic, being expensive means more powerful.
You said I shouldn’t talk about high-end pcs and I presented you with an entry-level and you’re still talking. How did this argument even make sense to you? grin

yeah, it is expensive because it is powerful, it might not be able to perform the functions a laptop does, because it's not one, but it does other things not meant for a laptop. does it also makes sense to you? Why would a device, you claim not powerful and can't perform some functions be more expensive than the one you consider more powerful that can do all the might tasks ?

How old are you Wale? grin @bolded just confirmed my argument that a laptop is more powerful than a mobile phone which you initially vehemently opposed. Someone like you would definitely say that since the Mac is more expensive, it then automatically becomes the more powerful one between the two because to you, high price tag = better performance 🤣
Can it do what the later can do? If I was being ignorant like you, I would claim the EOD is more powerful all round than the 22ultra because it’s more expensive without stating that particular area where the EOD triumphed I.e the lens and photography in general. Your argument would have made sense if your earlier claim was that a phone is better than a laptop in some areas which are portability and photography but saying a mobile phone is better and more powerful than a laptop dey make make I dey shame for you and in fact, it’s a shame that I’m having this conversation🤣
Again, the only areas where a mobile phone triumphs over a laptop is in the areas of portability/ease of mobility and camera. I’m sure you don’t even know that laptops now come with SIM card slots grin grin
Let me help you rephrase what you intended to say before making that blunder. I’m sure you meant to say that mobile phones are better in photography as well as in the ease of use and movement. Saying that a mobile phone is more POWERFUL than a pc is an unforgivable blasphemy grin Who’s your computer teacher? You’re forgiven tho.
