SENATOR OSITA IZUNASO: THE QUEST FOR ROBUST PROGRESSIVE AND TRANSFORMATIONAL LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP FOR THE SENATE PRESIDENT OF THE 10th NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

The National Assembly remains the bastion of democracy and the arm of government charged and saddled with the fundamental responsibility of lawmaking and oversight functions and place where the yearnings and aspirations of the masses are laid to bear for responsive laws in meeting the needs of the people.

The National Assembly since the return of the country back to democracy in 1999 remains the institution that represent all shades of interest in the country which made it one of the driven force of democratic governance.

Going by the strength and efficacy of the institution, it is very important that the leadership of the National Assembly is very key in driving the yearnings and aspirations of the people especially in this trying moment of the country where unity , harmony and peace of the country is already shaking if truth must be told.

As Nigerians await the swearing of the new administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kassim Shettima on May 29 that would herald the proclamation of the 10th National Assembly.

The political atmosphere of the 10th National Assembly is already charged with diverse permutations and alliance ongoing on who become the President of the Senate with zoning and other factors in consideration for who to emerge as the President of the Senate.

There has been agitation for the 10th National Assembly to be zoned to the South East geopolitical for political expediency, national stability, cohesion and all inclusiveness devoid any marginalization of a particular zone taking into cognizance of the ethnic tripod stand of the nation which are North, South and East.

The position of the Senate President is very germane and key to the success of the incoming administration and hence required a competent hand be in saddle of the institution.

In search for a competent, visionary, sagacity ,capacity and impeccable character to pilot the affairs of the 10th National Assembly, it is no doubt that Providence has indeed positioned Senator Osita Izunaso for that exalted seat as a ranking senator from the East.

Senator Osita Izunaso joining the senate president race could be likened to preparation meeting opportunity based on his rich political pedigree, antecedent and impeccable character exhibited throughout his political journey unblemished.

If consistency, perseverance, doggedness, unwavering loyalty,determination and deliberate effort and immense contributions to the evolvement and growth of the party is to be appreciated especially for its penetration and survival of the All Progressives Congress in the East, Senator Osita Izunaso without gainnsaying should be crowned as the Senate president.

Senator Osita Izunaso was at the centre stage and played a pivotal role in the formation of the party and could be referred to one of his founding fathers in the East. At the formation of the party, there was much doubt of the survival of the party in the geopolitical but the astuteness and relentless efforts of someone like Senator Osita didn't just give hope to the party but strengthen it today to what it is with two states in control by the party and increase in the number of the lawmakers from the region.

While some of those jostling for the Senate President of the party under the party has no record of service to the party , Senator Osita thrives most.

The Imo West Senator -elected has not only paid his dues in the All Progressives Congress as a core party man but has been instrumental to many of the successes the party recorded from the midwifing stage to the various degree of roles played as the founding National Organising Secretary, a position he held and serviced adequately for about five years.

This is not the time for unnecessary political permutation but to give competence, exposure, experience and meritocracy the needed chance to prevail which are all well represented in Senator Osita as the next President of the Senate for a viable and dynamic National Assembly.

The Imo State born lawmaker, in his readiness to serve and strengthening the National Assembly has unveiled his 10 points legislative agenda which are all encompassing for the repositioning of the country with the need for his emergence as the one who the cap fit.

The leadership of the senate is a sensitive one that need a man of vision, energy, political will, capacity and excellence and with the cosmopolitan nature, urbane, shrewd and uncommon dexterity of Senator Osita Izunaso, Nigerians can be guaranteed of a steadfast man who prioritizes the welfare, progress and development of the nation via the instrument of lawmaking.

As the call for national cohesion, stability and harmony continue to gain momentum, it is ideal round peg of Senator Osita filled the round hole of the Senate President for a better ,responsive and responsible National Assembly that the youths and the nation at large can be proud of as we await the 10th Assembly.
