Mr Ajimobi needs to be sensitive with some of the decisions he's taking. Why announce this sum for a burial when victims of the devastating flood are still homeless?  Even if he did it for political expediency, must he publicly announce it?

We must call a spade a spade regardless of the political party.  What should be paramount on our minds is good governance and not party allegiance.

NGN 58 million to bury an ex-governor?! I suggest that they organize a quiz competition at the secondary school level. The top-7 students would then be buried alive with our dear late Governor! Of course, their parents would be paid NGN 5 million each for their sacrifice to the Yoruba people. This would make it a truly unforgettable burial ceremony!

Mr. Governor, it would have been wise of you if you had given out N2 million for the burrial and given to 28 youths from poor homes N1 million each to establish themselves. Oh Nigerians, le us be wise.

tht would hav led to inflation grin grin grin

And to think that this same government cannot afford to fund an 85 million Naira project that will generate over 20 Billion Naira in one year for Oyo State. Talk about priorities.

30MILLION!

Is this not this same governor who said the state cannot afford to pay minimum wage to the workers yet they want to waste money on a dead man.
This country is a joke.
Re: Oyo Releases ₦30m For Burial Of Ex-governor by thuao(m): 5:35pm On Sep 30, 2011
Wen wud we stop wasting money. 30m on a dead man, wen the living are suffering, we can't pay 18000 minimum wage. We need a rethink. Our leaders are not serving us, we are serving them.
After embezzling our money while in office, feeding our money as pension wen out of office, wen dead. The treasury is further looted to celebrate them.

Now, I'm beginning to understand the low level our the standards has fallen down to. 'Family asked for N58m. Govt promised N30m. Family rejected. The press blew the story out of proportion and we are all crying wolf'.

The fact: Kolapo Ishola was gov during Babangida's diarchical experiment. The experiment failed. Now he is late and family is assumed unable to take care of burial expenses for both the family and political followers, monetising like 90% of the responsibilities without giving actual cash, and some people are shouting blue murder.

Kolapo Ishola was governor of Oyo State State when there were 'no-go areas' in the constitution and even their budgets and governance mode were srutinised by the military under IBB.

My advice: Check and cross-check before contributing.

But your advice is best needed by your own self.

U did not check and cross-check before contributing As a result, you grossly misunderstood the development.

Let me help you out, The family did not ask for 58M as you have misunderstood and the story was not blown out by the media but by ACN. ACN sorted for media publicity for their action.

The family formally informed the govt of their fathers death being an ex governor of the state. The family had budgeted 58M for the burial, remember that it would have been a PDP affair but Ajimobi was willing to gain further political relevance amongst the Ibadan political class, hence he offered to sponsor roughly 70% of the family's budget to silence the PDP who would have claimed the glory for the burial if it was totally funded by them

So Ajimobi could never have assumed that the burial would have no funding because he knows the financial worth of Kolapo's children and even ground children and he knows very well that the PDP could sponsor the burial without a sweat. The fact still remains that he squandered ppl,s money for a mere reason of scoring political point.

, and how did u arrive at "monetizing"? (you seem trying to impose your own personal opinion on ppl here) they said the money would be released to the family, the only monetization is probably the Adamsingba that they want to renovate for th burial which the family has turned down already.
