Q1: Can you start by introducing yourself and telling us a bit about your journey as an Afropop artist?

Response: Of course! My name is Otunba Vibez, and I'm an Afropop artist hailing from Nigeria. My musical journey began at age 14, I was inspired by indigenous afro by King Sunny Ade, and Fela Kuti among others I listened to them from old tapes played by my Dad and I later began songwriting shortly after his demise in 2012. Now I delve deep into the diversity of Afrobeat and strive towards defining my unique sound to the global audience.

Q2: Who are your biggest musical influences, both within Nigeria and internationally?

Response: I draw inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences. Within Nigeria, I look up to legendary artists such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2face Idibia, who have made significant contributions to the Afropop genre. Internationally, I admire the work of global stars like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, who have successfully taken Afrobeats to the global stage.

Q3: Can you walk us through your creative process? How do you typically approach writing and producing your songs?

Response: My creative process usually starts with a spark of inspiration, which could come from personal experiences, current events, or even just a catchy melody that pops into my head. I believe in the power of storytelling, so I focus on crafting lyrics that resonate with my audience. Once I have the lyrics, I collaborate with talented producers to create the right musical backdrop that complements the message of the song. It's a collaborative effort that involves experimenting with different sounds, melodies, and arrangements until we find the perfect blend.

Q4: What have been some of your career's most memorable moments or achievements so far?

Response: There have been many incredible moments so far since I started music, Meeting artists like Seyi Vibez during a studio session in 2016, and performing on the same stage with the likes of Reekado Banks, Pocolee and other celebrities gives me more enthusiasm and a drive to stay in the music race. I look forward to more memorable events and I urge my fans home and abroad to support and show some love till my art is global.

Q5: How do you feel your music contributes to the representation of Nigerian culture on a global scale?

Response: Nigerian culture is incredibly rich and vibrant, and through my music, I strive to showcase its beauty and diversity to a global audience. Afropop has become a global phenomenon. I believe that by staying true to my Nigerian roots while infusing modern sounds, I can contribute to the representation and appreciation of Nigerian culture worldwide. I incorporate traditional elements, local languages, and references to Nigerian experiences, allowing listeners from different backgrounds to connect with our culture and heritage.

Q6: What advice would you give to young and aspiring artists who are looking to make a mark in the music industry?

Response: My advice to young and aspiring artists is to remain focused, work hard, and never lose sight of their unique voice and vision. The music industry can be challenging, but perseverance and dedication are key. Surround yourself with a supportive team and continuously strive to improve your craft. Additionally, embrace opportunities to collaborate and learn from other artists. Finally, remember that success takes time, so stay committed to your passion and believe in yourself.

Q7: When you're not making music, how do you like to spend your time? Any hobbies or interests you enjoy?

Response: When I'm not making music, I enjoy exploring different forms of artistic expression. I have a deep appreciation for visual arts, particularly Graphics design and videography/photography. Additionally, I'm an avid reader and enjoy delving into various genres of literature. These hobbies allow me to recharge creatively and broaden my perspectives.
