I think the way out of this unfair situation is to do the following:

1. Raise tax on fuel bound for Lagos and other SW states to bring it to equilibrium with others.

2. Ensure that all other ports are viable and give ships going there tax rebates.

Many of those talking crap don't even understand the dangers of having such lopsided differentials in fuel price across Nigeria. There will be increased influx of people into Lagos and the adjoining states leading to instability. Already, Lagos and its environ control over 70% of Nigeria's economy, the figure will even jump to 90% if this discriminatory price differences is allowed.

Fuel is never bound for Lagos. It originates from Lagos. It is from Lagos, after it comes from overseas, since we don't refine, that it goes to other places. If they tax them from the ports, it affects everyone.

Or should should Lagos fuel.just be taxed for taxing sake?

A bunch of poor bitter communists in this thread. As usual to Nigerians it’s always about holding down Yoruba to them. They are so bitter. They broke up the western region because it was way ahead of theirs. They try to divide Edo and delta from the west to slow us down. They blame Yoruba for the civil war they they both started. The only thing that unites north and east is hatred for Yoruba progress. But we move regardless

Proximity or not, it doesn't make sense! Nigerians in all regions have same minimum wage. Fuel is a basic necessity in Nigeria upon which other factors of production rely upon.

When you give SW such unfair advantage, you make other regions less viable and less productive relative to SW.

If this government want to favour only Yorubas against other Nigerians then he should be ready because Nigerians will collectively resist him!

Haulage from Lagos to Abuja for instance costs around 900k while Lagos to Ado ekiti would be around 300-400k. Lagos to Maiduguri will be around 1.5-2m.
Lagos to Akwa Ibom will be around 500-700k.
Who covers those expenses? We shouldn't be sentimental in everything nah. @proeast

Bro it is the market condition. Think nao!

Food is less costly in the North and more costly in the SW. How many times have you seen me as a Yoruba man blame the Hausa and Buhari for that?

That’s because the food originate from the North. They will factor in transportation cost which will make it costlier when it get down south. It’s basic economics and you don’t need too much thinking to deduce that.

Every region have their own comparative advantage. It is not Yoruba people that says your Ibo ancestors should choose land without access to the Ocean.
it's basic common sense really. But you don't expect someone like him to get it.

Bigotry is all written over the thread.
I guess the OP can't stand any positivity from the SW. He singled out the SW. He didn't ask why it's cheaper in the whole south compared to the north, instead he singled out the region of President Tinubu.

Please, my people should stop replying the guy. At least you've tried to educate him why it's like that.

From page 1 up to this page 3.
If the OP has no ulterior motive, he should have relented by now with what has been discussed so far.
they want to start agenda ni.

That's how they cried about Fulani for 8 years because of buhari.

We won't have any of that.

Exactly. These expenses used to be covered partly by subsidy payments in the past. Not anymore.

Continue trying to be smart by half. Food is grown more in the North but is fuel gotten from the SW? So why using such ridiculous comparison?

If fuel should be cheapest anywhere in Nigeria using your analogy, it should be in the SS!

Just know that Nigerians are no fools and we won't accept such crass tribalism in government.
Dangote saw all you are saying in ss and se yet built refinery in Lagos.
The same Lagos is seaport where importer of petrol prefer.
That should tell you something if you have waec certificate

Let's tell ourselves the truth for once, it will be grossly unfair to sell fuel 488 in Lagos and 500 in Ekiti but sell same fuel 557 in Maiduguiri and other parts of Nigeria! We all receive same minimum wage and would have to use same markets. So, by doing that, you have automatically made people in NE much poorer than those in SW by Fiat!

This situation if allowed to take hold will cause serious instability. 57 lost in each litre would amount to hundreds of billions within months and its attendant job losses and impoverishment on those affected. You as a yorubaman will never accept that if you're at the receiving end so why do you want others to accept it?

The way out is to tax fuel going to Lagos or other SW states more to bring the final cost at equilibrium with others. It becomes a win-win for all.

Point of correction, fuel doesn't originate from Lagos, rather Lagos is the point of entry. That also shows the faulty nature of Nigeria's so-called federalism because there are several other ports in the SS so why use only Lagos?

Another point of correction, fuel destined for Lagos and other SW states can be easily taxed to bring their final price to equilibrium with others. This is how it can be done:

Tankers conveying fuel to each of the 6 regions and Lagos should be painted in particular colors for easy identification. There should be a regulatory body monitoring these tankers effectively.

Let's assume that tankers for Lagos are painted yellow, those for other SW states are green, those for SS are painted blue, those for NW white etc. Any tanker that is seen delivering products in any other regions apart from its designated region would be heavily fined! For instance, once a yellow tanker is seen on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway heading to Oyo state, that's already a red flag! Police, road safety or other regulatory bodies has the right to stop them! Same goes for others.

I hope those in the National assembly will see this idea I'm raising here and act on it. Allowing fuel to be cheap in SW and expensive in other parts of Nigeria will cause instability.

Grow up and stop seeing everything from the angle of tribalism. Such primitive mindset is why Nigeria has refused to develop optimally.

You can't have something as crucial as fuel cheap in one part of Nigeria and costly in another part.

the price of indomie is uniform across because they want to be fair to all Nigeria, who force nnpc to target the same make up across Nigeria example because they are making profit of 30 naira in sokoto, why should they not try to make profit of 100 naira in Lagos, saying that they are happy with only 30 naira because that what they make in sokoto

God bless you for bringing that apt analogy using indomie!

You see most of them attacking me here are Yorubas and they're giving all manner of excuses in support of this unjust pricing because it favours them. Let the tables turn now and you see them crying blue murder.

I'm Igbo from the East and we have an adage that goes thus: emenyere nwogwugwu, emeyere nwa-anosike which literally means be fair to all. So, I feel bad seeing the severe consequences of dealing others in the North such insensitive and wicked economic blow!

Two things are involved here, either you don't understand the dynamics of the case you arguing on or you are deliberately mischievous. Lagos is the point of entry of the refined PMS. You don't expect the land cost in Lagos to be the same with even Ogun state which is the nearest. This is something a layman business person can fathom. Why are you arguing blindly nah.

You are arrogantly daring Nigerians to do their worst? You are supporting Tinubu to corner billions of naira to the SW at the expense of other Nigerians?

Don't worry, he exposed his hands too early. Maybe as the pharoah he is, God has sent Ahitophel to advise him so his end could come faster.

Quite the pretence. People as you are mere mischief makers. Even is Tinubu's head is served to you, you'd ask why it's not on a pike.
