Hungary’s greatest player

The 67,000-capacity venue for tonight’s final opened in 2019 and was named after Hungary and Real Madrid legend Ferenc Puskas.

Puskas was born in the same district of Budapest in 1927. He went on to star for Budapest clubs Kispest and Honved, and later won three European Cups with Real Madrid.

He scored 84 goals in 85 international matches for the Mighty Magyars, won Olympic gold with Hungary in 1952 and led his nation to the 1954 World Cup final – a loss to West Germany.

The Puskas Arena was built on the site of the old national stadium that opened in 1953 and was demolished in 2016. All that remains of the old stadium is a brick building that used to house its press centre and is now a museum celebrating Puskas’s life.

Roma face Europa League thoroughbreds

After winning the competition in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020, Sevilla have the chance to work their magic yet again in their favourite tournament.

Roma, meanwhile, have never won the Europa League, although they were runners-up in the 1991 UEFA Cup and 1984 European Cup. Their only European title – apart from last year’s Conference League triumph – was the 1961 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
