President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has been on strike to return to work.

The President made the call on Monday in his office during an audience with leaders of Joint Health Sector Union.

Tinubu, who harped on the importance of the health sector, promised to resolve all identified problems plaguing the system for optimum performance.

“The health sector is one sector with a commitment to humanity. We will resolve all the problems. Trust must be enshrined in all discussions. I promise you we will accelerate this. We will resolve all the issues. Please go back to work,” President Tinubu appealed to the union leaders.

The president, in a statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information, State House, restated that his administration would revive and restore public confidence in the health sector in Nigeria.

While expressing the readiness of the union to get its members back to work, Acting Chairman, Dr. Obinna Ogbonna, pleaded with President Tinubu to pay attention to healthcare delivery system in Nigeria through adequate investment in healthcare infrastructure and better welfare for workers in the sector to stop brain drain.

“Mr. President, now that we have assurance from the top, we are encouraged to go back and talk to our members with a view to going back to work.”

Mr. Olumide Akintayo, a member of the Executive Council of the Union, who accompanied the Acting Chairman to the meeting urged the Federal Government to always respond to Labour issues and nip them in the bud before they become full blown industrial crisis.

The health sector is crucial…
Them going on a strike will cost loss of lives.

He tried begging them, unlike one that will issue threat instead.

But who noticed that the world is in trouble now?

sad

Health workers have been going on strike for eons now...in 1984 they went on one bruising strike against the government, and Buhari sacked all of them. And the palaver really is the hospitals...the government run ones...need more money to function well.

Every time, government does not give the health workers what they want...more money to fund better hosptials, and more money for their pocket. (But of course).

So, there are two things here now...either we pay more tax for health to be funded better, or we pay higher in hospital fees.

If both strike u as oppressing the poor....then government has to find more money for the sector.

Or we all stop grumbling about how bad things are...and accept what we get.

And removing lawmaker;s salaries won;t help. We need twenty times whatever we get from the senators...before we can talk.

The primary responsibility of government is to make life better for the citizens.
Whatever the arguments are for & against Subsidy Removal, fact is that life will not become better if prices skyrocket as a result of subsidy removal.

Such a gentle but steely president! How blest can a people be to have a Leader like Asiwaju! Obasanjo would have employed the scorched-earth policy, Jonathan would have been mostly indifferent and a Peter Obi would have been confounded into confusion - not President Bola Ahmed Tinubu! Diplomacy here, persuasion there, and gentle prodding in learned Conversations at the other end. It ain't for nothing that he's called Jagaban. May your presidency bring uncountable terms of Bliss to our country and may unimaginable prosperity and blessings be ours, Amen. Whoever will find faults with these lines, may they bed-wet tonight!
