A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday blocked a move by the State Security Services (SSS) to arraign six suspected members of the Boko Haram sect before it.

Justice Bilikisu Aliyu turned down the request because the prosecution failed to serve the suspects with the charges before bringing them to court.

Justice Aliyu maintained that the suspects were constitutionally entitled to see the charges to enable them study them before taking a plea.

Justice Aliyu rebuffed persuasion by the prosecution team, led by Mr. Thompson Olatigbe, to entertain the case and directed that the suspects be properly served before they could be arraigned in court.

She, however, ordered that the suspects be remanded in the custody of the SSS, pending their arraignment today, after they must have been properly served.

The SSS, on September 13, took the eight suspects before an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court where they were charged with criminal conspiracy to commit felony to wit-criminal intimidation and threat to life and voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means, contrary to Section 97 248(1) and Section 397 of the Penal Code, punishable under the same code.

The suspects who appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court were Ahmed Hassan Ezimakor, Shuaibu Abubakar, Mohammed Danlami, Salisu Ahmed, Umar Babagana, Mohammed Ali, Musa Adam and Umar Ibrahim.

Is the judge crazy? angry
She might be technically right, but this is a freaging emergency! Nobody really gives a damn about how charges are served on boko haram people; the case shouls simply have been arjouned for a couple of days to give the murdering blighters whatever chance they require to study the charges against them.

^ Two wrongs cant make a right. Lets try to be transparant and give fundamental rights to animals to clear up any misconceptions.

Let there be due process. . .else, how do we differentiate our self from them?

The SSS should convince me that it is not a subtle plan to twart the trial. If not, why should they do it in a shabby way? I don't trust these security agencies any more. angry
