Mellis, whom Chelsea signed in a £1 million deal from Sheffield United back in 2009, has struggled with alcohol addiction throughout his career.


The 32-year-old has now given his account of what went wrong with him.

Mellis regularly featured for the Chelsea Reserves, making FA Youth Cup finals with ease.

he wasnt good enough to make the 1st team, and got depressed and started drinking (because he couldnt take the jokes and abuses he received at the local boozer).... same old football story that many had.

the worst part is that this fool was sacked by Chelsea not because he was not up to scratch but because he set the training ground on fire after setting off a smoke grenade that caused a full-scale evacuation of the training centre
