The draws for the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket that will be hosted by Rwanda have been conducted in Maputo, Mozambique.

Hosts Rwanda are in Group A alongside Angola and will be joined by the winner of the Zone 3 qualifying tournament in which Guinea (a Zone 2 member) will compete.

Except for Liberia, the national teams of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Niger and Togo will attempt to pick a ticket to join Nigeria which has automatically qualified as defending champions.

The Zone 3 regional qualifier will take place from June 30 until July 2, according to FIBA Africa's Competitions Department.

Group B consist of Cameroon and Mozambique who will be joined by a Wild Card while Group C have 11 times African champions Senegal, 2021 Finalist Mali and Uganda.

The defending champions of the Afrobasket tournament, D'Tigers of Nigeria will face off with Egypt and DR Congo in Group D to defend their title and hope to win their fourth consecutive title and sixth overall.

The winner of the group will automatically qualify for the quarterfinals while the next two teams will cross groups and face off in a playoff for a quarterfinal place which means every team will have a chance to play for a spot in the last eight.


The FIBA Women’s AfroBasket is the top women’s basketball tournament in Africa which is staged every two years and features the top 12 national teams on the continent. The 27th edition of this event will take place from July 28, 2023, to August 6, 2023, in Rwanda.
