The Aka tribe, who lives in the tropical jungles of Central Africa, actively participates in the rearing of their newborns, one of which is by bosom feeding.

The Aka are a Central African Republic and northern Congo tribe. The Aka people, in addition to having a rich cultural legacy, regard bosom feeding as an important element of parenting, a role that extends beyond biological mothers.

Their belief system is heavily entrenched in the concept of collective parenting, which argues that everyone in the community contributes to child-rearing.

This is why both men and women actively participate in child care and nurture. Aka fathers are expected to form deep bonds with their children from the moment they are born.

This link is strengthened by frequent skin-to-skin contact, such as the ritual known as “couvade,” in which fathers hold newborns against their bare chests and feed them with their bosoms.

Of course, the men in the Aka tribe lack mammary glands capable of producing milk. They then mimic the act of Bosom feeding using a traditional technique known as “milk teeth.” This includes the guys stimulating their nipples with particular herbs, which causes a small amount of milk to be released.
