The person that lied to Nigerians that driving with AC uses more fuel will never make heaven.

Your car actually uses more fuel when all the windows are wound down than with the AC on.

I've spent years designing mobile AC systems and the answer to this question comes down to one simple thing.

A gas engine generates power by burning fuel and air. Part of the power that it generates is consumed by the accessories attached to the engine via the serpentine belt. An AC compressor consumes about 3–4 horsepower to run. So yes, a small part of the horsepower is consumed by the AC system. That means that some small portion of gas goes into producing that power that would otherwise not be used without an AC system.

Also on really hot summer days the AC system may cause your engine fan to turn on when idling or at low speed because of excessively high temperatures and pressures in the AC system. That will require more power from the alternator and may kick your vehicle into a high idle to handle it which would also consume more fuel.

Situate the facts properly.

To summarize, your car uses less fuel with the AC ON with highway driving conditions of above 80kmh. Your car uses more fuel with the AC ON with city driving conditions of lower than 80kmh. So, when you're speeding wind up the glass and use AC, and when you are not speeding, wind down the glass. You do need to do both things in those circumstances, if you want to save fuel.

You are wrong. Even car headlights and wipers add to the load on the alternator to make the engine raise thereby consuming more fuel.

Your theory of windows is when you are in high speed. Your wound down windows won't do anything if you are in traffic. But if you are using your ac in traffic bear in mind the car will use more fuel.

let them keep deceiving themselves. Wher is the ac supposed to get it's power. You are only better off saving fuel using your ac at high speed cos your engine is firing, u use less fuel to cover more distance and also u not applying ur brakes frequently unlike city driving. Then we talk about drags, the drags slows down your vehicle at high speed, you need to wound up ur glass to allow the body shape of your vehicle pierce through air(streamlining). All these factors at high speed gives you more distance per fuel burned thereby making your ac consumption negligible.

Only at high speeds the AC doesn't consume fuel and when u wine up the car flies faster
I have noticed this, in traffic the AC consumes fuel,

Before the subsidy shit,

I monitor km traveled and fuel I buy same amount
Same distance, but during traffic times using AC fuel goes faster and I have to refill earlier than a week I didn't use ad

So knw the truth

Uses more fuel when the windows are down and on high speed. Driving within the city on a low speed with a.c on consumes fuel well. Infact driving with ur windows down on high speed doesn't really consume fuel much if you maintain your rpm on 2 and it depends on ur engine size also...Some cars are designed with a good aerodynamics efficiency just like Toyota Prius, so u don't really need to take ur windows up on the Toyota Prius in order to save fuel

It baffles me when an educated felow will sit under the tree with a road side mechanic and believe all the mechanic says without even making effort to verify.

Your comment is apt oglalasioux. well done. We Nigerians are good at discussing half-truth without details.
OP if you feel what was said is wrong compare winding up and putting on your AC on a sunny day while stuck in traffic for 1 hour, with your 4 windows down under the same condition I stated earlier.
Try these two conditions and come back to testify to the house.
