Those were the period that Nigerians were living a natural way of life with zero importation.

During the colonial era, and especially after ww2, when most of europe was destroyed into rubbles, resources from africa were used in the rebuilding of major cities in europe. Nigeria was vastly rich rich then.

No one should make excuse for Nigeria.
our failure today are the choices we made yesterday.
Europe,America and religion should not be blamed.

The oil we have is What the Arab world has,see where they are despite being religious countries.

Am not talking about European Christian nations.
Early American leadership and scholars were religious too.

We chose this path by the leadership we've allowed over the years.
These leadership in connivance with foreign actors balcanized and plundered our foreign wealth.
Today the billions of dollars stashed away in European banks is repatriated can fix the major challenges we have in this country.

First off we weren't a rich nation, we were a poor nation, with a lot of people living below the poverty line then.

Second, we were a british colony.

Third, we did not have sufficent transport infrastructure. Most of the highways you use today were nothing more than paths or non existent in the year 1947

Fourth, any help we were giving was likely to be in the form of us giving up more revenue.

This poster is not showing us as a rich nation, it is a nice way of showing us how the colonizer was robbing us back then while pretending they were going into partnership with us.

I agree with you a lot, but the problem with comparing us with Arab countries is that we are not them...literally

Most Arab countries that are oil rich also have two things in common

1.Very small populations...indeed...Saudi has 40 million people, Kuwait 4.25million people, Qatar, 1.8million people and the UAE has around 15 million people

2.Produce more oil than we do. Saudi produces 10million barrels of crude per day,Kuwait 2.74million, Qatar, 1.1million and UAE 2.4-2.8million barrels of crude per day

Compare that with Nigeria's 220 million people, and 1.2million barrels of crude per day. Tinubu wants us to get up to 4million by 2030, and even then, it won't be enough.Even if we stopped stealing and corruption permanently.

Nigeria even then, needs to get off oil and diversify...which is where our leaders have failed us.

Bro, this is where Nigeria main problem started..

At least before the coup;
We’ve had free education set up..
Agro-base business which includes export..
Cocoa house was already in existence..
We’ve had a functioning media..

The Igbos coup did a alot of damage to Nigeria! It was a wound from the coup that penetrated to the civil war!

The first republic was also massively corrupt, and also had a lot of issues with tribalism.

Yes, the coup should not have happened,(it was outright treason really), and the coup plotters were too idealistic to note that Nigerians, even during colonial times, look at things from a tribal view always (even today, someone gets sacked, it must be because he or she is from tribe X, not because of the real reason that he or she was not just good at their job). But to pretend the first republic was an idyll is wrong.

Also free education worked then because fewer people were in school then, so less money was needed then for schools. Once numbers exploded in government schools from 1976 when UPE was introduced, that was when standards started going down.

Op must be uneducated like a lot of people in southwest these days.
Nothing like Nigeria in 1947 rather 'British Nigeria' being a colony of the UK. What you see there is the British doing what they still do today- pretending they are equal with their colony to legitimise colonialism and get what they want. Op is still captive to that message 66 years after.

You’re right bro, but the first republic was fairing better. As at then, corruption wasn’t very much romantic!

It is funny how no single "British Nigerian" was among the delegates.
You seem to confuse government with the populace.

You think Britain was looking for voluntary support from Nigeria? In 1947, Britain owned Nigeria

The support here was more of a command than an appeal
