As the price of petrol keeps rising, some Nigerians are looking for alternative means to power their generators. For a country with a population of 180 million that has 5,000 megawatts on its national grid, it can't sustain the electricity needs of most Nigerians.

Gas (CNG/LPG) is being seen as an alternative.

Firewood is another alternative that may be cheaper than gas.

For a country that is powered majorly with power sources other than the national grid, firewood as an alternative source is not feasible. It would mean a rapid desertification of our forests, inflation in price of wood which is essential for many house household constructions including housing itself. The quality of our air will be bad which will tell on the general health of Nigerians. We would also contribute massively to global warming which may then mean devastating natural disasters for us.

Solar is still our best alternative.

Solar na how much?
The exchange rate will even make solar equipment prices to rise soon.

If we can have stable power supply of at least 50,000 megawatts, most Nigerians will have no need for generators.
