Mark Dicara, 62, accidentally shot himself in the leg while he was asleep on the evening of April 10
While dreaming he was the victim of a home invasion, he grabbed a .357 Magnum revolver and took aim at the 'intruder'
Dicara accidentally shot himself and woke up from the nightmare, only for police to charge him with several firearms offences.

An Illinois man is facing two felony firearms charges after accidentally shooting himself in his sleep while dreaming about a home invasion.

Mark Dicara, 62, mistakenly believed a burglar was breaking into his home after he dozed off on the night of April 10.
While dreaming he was fending off a criminal, he grabbed his .357 Magnum revolver and fired a shot into the darkness, only to wake himself up after inadvertently shooting himself in the leg.

Dicara was rushed to hospital when police found him losing a 'significant amount of blood', and investigators would later discover he used the revolver without a state-mandated Firearm Owners Identification Card.
Mark Dicara, 62, accidentally shot himself in the leg while he was asleep after dreaming he was being ambushed by a home invader
An investigation into the shooting found that when Dicara discharged the gun, the bullet went through his leg before lodging in his bedding.

After deputies found Dicara gushing blood from the wound, they applied a tourniquet to his led and sent him to a local hospital for treatment.
No one else was harmed, and authorities quickly established that no home invasion had ever occurred in the home.

It was concluded that Dicara violated Illinois state firearms law as while he previously owned an identification card, it had been revoked.
Officials have not confirmed the reasons his license was revoked, or when it occurred.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Dicara is a semi-retired attorney licensed to practice law in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Following his arrest, the Lake County State's Attorney's Office announced it would be pursuing charges against Dicara for possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card.

He was also charged with reckless discharge of a firearm for his unconscious shot. The charges are considered Class 3 and Class 4 felonies, respectively.
Dicara is scheduled to appear in court June 29 after posting a $150,000 bond.

His dream came true cheesy

But it's actually a surprise to hear that one got charged with violation of gun laws in America. God Gun bless America.

On a more serious note, acting in self defense in face of a perceived threat (though not real) shouldn't be seen as a crime. His perception was altered by sleep which is natural and secondly, he thought there was an imminent threat to his life and needed to defend himself instantly and not call 911.

Assuming the threat is real, he wouldn't have the time to get Firearm Owners Identification Card before defending himself.
