Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by RichDad1(m): 5:29pm On Sep 14, 2007
I just read thur the Ubutu nigeria ,it states some versions on ubutu.The one i am having is version 6.06 LTS .I hope this is not outdated?
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by Ralvy(m): 6:23pm On Sep 14, 2007
@Rich Dad,

Oudated is not the right word, although that 1 came out a while ago,
Ubuntu 6.06LTS was the second release from Ubuntu,
These are all the releases;

Ubuntu 5.04
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake
Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy
Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn

and we are expecting;

ubuntu 7.10 Gusty

I know of many people who use 6.06LTS because of it's long term support (LTS). the next Ubuntu release with LTS will be out around April next year. .

It will not be a bad idea if you decide to install the version u have, that is an earlier version and it may be suitable for beginners, if you don't want that, you can contact 1 of the Ubuntunigeria Admin's for a CD.

Since ur location is at Lagos, you can hook up with Bigbrovar or Afo . .
I would talk to them on ur behalf

Good Luck

Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by RichDad1(m): 3:08pm On Sep 15, 2007
Thanks for the info.Bytheway what Version do i need to get that screen shot of bigrovar above (the cube stuff)??also what about my hard disk space i have only 7GB remaining will i need to get a new one or will that be okay??I have been trying to call bigrovar but i dont know what is wrong with MTN i haven;t been able to call or receive call for two days now.
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by Ralvy(m): 3:16pm On Sep 15, 2007
MTN - Not the Shit, I'd be changin soon . . . cry cry cry

To get bigbrovar's PC look,

I'd have tu know what Graphic Card u have in ur system . . .

and YES! 7GB is aight for Ubuntu, note that after installing Ubuntu, do not try to reinstall XP or u loose the Grub, which may be kinda hectic during recovery. . .
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by RichDad1(m): 3:21pm On Sep 15, 2007
Dont know .but i will have to figure out.I guess it to be 128 or so(not really sure)where can i get it?
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by Ralvy(m): 3:34pm On Sep 15, 2007
128 sounds more like ur RAM, and if that's ur RAM Speed - I wuld not advise you to install Ubuntu like that, do an upgrade . .
Atleast, 512MB is required . .

For Graphic Cards, Right Click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Device Manager
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by RichDad1(m): 4:00pm On Sep 15, 2007
Nope.My RAM is 512MB .Whats the minumum requirement for the graphic card to run the stuff??
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by bigrovar(m): 11:27pm On Sep 15, 2007
i need to know the type of processor and graphic card that u use, so that i will know how compiz fusion (effect on my screenshot) would work on ur system, 512 ram is more than enough to run ubuntu

u know what
go to ubuntu nigeria,, all what u need to know about it is there
Re: Ubuntu Nigeria by adewaleafolabi(m): 5:28pm On Sep 16, 2007
LTS is good for those in the business line. But for normal users i recommend normal releases cause they have the latest. i use Edgy and serves me but its better one uses the latest.
am in ibadan now ralvy
