In a surprising turn of events, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Muri Yakubu Ajaka, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of a notorious criminal who was responsible for the murder of Mrs. Salome Abu, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) woman leader in the state. The criminal, Kabir Bala, was killed by operatives of the Joint Security Team in Kogi State. The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Akeem Yusuf, confirmed the incident during a press briefing at the state Police headquarters in Lokoja. It should be noted that Kabir Bala, also known as Okwo, had previously been granted a pardon by the Kogi State government in October 2018 as part of a rehabilitation program. However, he continued to engage in criminal activities, including illegal arms dealing, kidnappings, and killings in the state. Commissioner Yusuf revealed that Kabir Bala was responsible for numerous crimes, such as the burning alive of Mrs. Salome Abu in November 2019, the killing of two Igala youths in April 2022, the murder of five Fulani herders, and various other violent acts. The State Security Council, during a meeting held on June 20, 2023, decided to revoke the pardon granted to Bala in 2018 and ordered the security agencies to apprehend him for prosecution. In a statement released by the Murtala Yakubu Ajaka Gubernatorial Campaign Organization, signed by Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the communication director, the SDP candidate expressed shock and condemned the killing of Kabir Bala. The statement by the SDP candidate whose supporters reportedly attacked Governor Bello two weeks ago has generated lots of reactions, leaving the public with the question of wether the SDP is an accomplice of the dreaded thug. It was observed that there had been form of political romance between Muri and Okwo as both were seen severally in meetings and had photographs together recently.
