When I was younger during my 7 to 19 years of age, I usually have these horrible and frightening night dreams whenever I forget to pray before sleeping at night. Though its not the type that makes me wake up and start screaming, each time it happens I will be forced to wake up in my lonely dark room at midnight to say a little prayer before sleeping again, and I wouldn't have anymore dark dreams for the rest of the night.
I stopped praying at bedtime like 5 years ago and I discovered that the dark dreams I usually had back then now happens rarely compared to when I used to pray before sleeping. But the most recent dark dream I had just occured last night which makes me want to ask if there are others who experience dark dreams when he or she doesn't pray before sleeping at night.

I used to have nightmares of devil worshippers coming to offer me for sacrifice.

When I was told stories of evil eyes, night-runners or when some Vampire series on starting coming on TV, my nightmares changed too. To include these vile creatures.

But they just kept coming, after I pray, like you, the night got better. but later that night or another day, I would get other nightmares.

To be very honest, when I become an atheist I stopped having nightmares, immediately.

Dreams are purely in the mind. That's why we dream about what we fear, what we like or simply what we know. you need to tame our mind. You do it through prayer. Others do it by realizing they are just dreaming.

But the puzzle is why the nightmares stopped when I quit praying before bedtime and why it persisted while I was still praying then. Should have been the other way round.

@Blackteeth there is no puzzle, praying is your pacifier that soothes you to sleep. It does not have to be real or effective in any other way besides this. Some people take a beer instead or watch porn or just convince themselves that their brain is playing tricks on them. The best way of dealing with nightmares is to confront them call upon that demon that is haunting you to come and bite off your neck, and nothing will materialize, praying in just a placebo you need to deal with your fears.

Your spirituality is the major concern. This has to do with your level of knowledge of who you are.if you are born again. You need to know the word of God and understand the authority you have over the devil . You have authority over every single demon of darkness that oppress you in the night.

Your prayer shouldn't be baby prayer of "lord protect me" it won't work. You address them with authority to go from you. They will go. But it's not just the prayers. You need to study Gods word in this direcrtion. And believe it . Sometimes even without prayer, just meditating on certain truths from the bible ends the whole thing. You are superiornto Satan , how much more these little litlle demos. You are sited in christ far above all pricipakities. Let the devil know that you know your right .

He keepeth back his soul from the pit,and his life from perishing by the sword" Your night dream is like a television in the spiritual realm giving you information about what is going on in your spiritual life. You may not understand,but that does not rule out the fact that it is saying something to you. Your relationship with God will determine the type of nightdream you are having. If you do not dream,it means that the avenue which God speak to has been blocked by your actions. You need to retrace your life back to God. I detest argument. Nairaland should as a matter of urgency create sections for where at 3 well known churches have their own section, this is to avoid a situation whereby people will be misguided to take wrong decision about various challenges confronting them.
