Lagos State Initiates Vehicle Ownership Verification Process For Enhanced Safety by edudaniel(m): 10:23am On Jun 28, 2023
The Lagos State Government has announced the implementation of a new initiative for vehicle ownership verification. Starting in July 2023, vehicle owners will be required to annually renew their Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) as part of efforts to enhance the safety and security of residents.

During a press conference, AbdulAfeez Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, explained that the new initiative aims to improve the process of vehicle ownership verification and establish a centralized database. The POC will serve as official documentation of a vehicle's legal owner, containing essential information such as license number plate, model, year of manufacture, owner's name, and address.

The decision to introduce annual issuance of the Proof of Ownership Certificate nationwide was adopted by the Joint Tax Board during an emergency meeting on May 9, 2023. This measure is intended to track the real-time status and ensure the integrity of all vehicles registered on the National Vehicle and Identification Scheme (NVIS) database.

The annual POC will be specially printed and connected with other vehicle documents in the state. It offers several benefits, including the ability to easily obtain statistics on the vehicular population nationwide, verify motor vehicle documents from any state, enhance the safety and security of vehicles and their owners, and contribute to national security, planning, and economic development.

The Lagos State Government believes that the implementation of the Proof of Ownership Certificate will help monitor the real-time status and guarantee the integrity of registered vehicles on the NVIS database. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the commencement of this initiative in Lagos State to prioritize safety and security, prompting this public announcement to provide further information to residents.

The problem here is not the matter of Taxes and it's payment but it's effective utilizations to the good of the payers and the society as obtainable in other SANE climes..... not an avenue to enrich some individuals closer to the Men at the top.....at the expense of the majority.... it's a sad reality

This one is for those who use lagos plate number or renew their papers in lagos. As for me, nothing concern me with lagos again. Changed my plate number to another state and will always renew my documents outside lagos.
