The satire is lame. It's a win for Nigeria as progressive Nigerians would definitely receive this news with happiness.
It's however saddening to come to understand that some people sole aim is to use the positives of Nigeria to pepper their fellow Nigerians. It inadvertently reveals the humongous divide and whitewashing of the PEACE AND UNITY in the national anthem.
The funny part is that the government and its cronies are aiding, abaiting, and turning a blind eye on what would break this country before even the most outspoken of all secessionist group does.

why would anyone be sad ? You should be sad that 100% of the revenue that port would generate will eventually end up in the pocket of thieves.

Let it end up in their pockets.

Where is the revenue your state govt has been generating since 1999?
That one should be your priority.

China Has 75% of Lekki Deep Seaport and will be in charge for 45 years.

The Lekki Deep Seaport is a major infrastructure project in Nigeria that has been the subject of much debate. A Chinese consortium has developed it, which has raised questions about national sovereignty and the potential for economic exploitation.

It is essential to emphasize the importance of reminding Nigerians, who are often criticized for having short memories, about the government’s underperformance in infrastructure development in the country. Notably, Lekki Port Investment Holding Inc., an international consortium, has now obtained a significant 75% stake in the Lekki Deep Seaport.

This is a project that the All Progressives Congress (APC) used as a focal point in their campaign leading up to most controversial and fraudulent elections in the annals of our history.

This consortium comprises China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., which holds a majority share of 52.50%, and Tolaram, which holds 22.5%. The remaining ownership is divided between the Lagos State Government, which holds 20%, and the Nigerian Ports Authority, which holds 5%.

Also, the Lekki Port, situated in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, was granted a concession by the Nigerian Ports Authority to operate for a remarkable period of 45 years under a build, own, operate, and transfer agreement. Notably, China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., as the principal entity within the consortium, possesses over 50% ownership in the project.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Lagos marked the commissioning of both the rice mill and the Lekki Deep Sea Port. This two-day working visit saw the president undertake the important task of inaugurating the Lekki Deep Seaport, along with the Lagos Rice Mill and the Eleko-Epe rigid pavement six-lane motorway spanning 18.75 kilometres in Imota.

The Chinese consortium’s majority stake acquisition suggests that even after 60 years of independence, Nigeria remains under the influence of foreign powers like China

The Lekki Deep Seaport, strategically located along the West African coastline, is poised to become a crucial hub for international trade and maritime activities in the region. With its state-of-the-art facilities and deep draught, the port is well-equipped to accommodate large container vessels and handle substantial cargo volumes. This development will undoubtedly bolster Nigeria’s position as a key player in the global maritime landscape and stimulate economic growth in the country.

The investment from the Chinese consortium reflects China’s increasing interest and involvement in Nigeria’s infrastructure development. As Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria offers immense potential for mutually beneficial partnerships, and the Lekki Deep Seaport project stands as a prime example of such collaboration.

The Chinese consortium’s majority stake in the Lekki Deep Seaport is a major blow to Nigeria’s sovereignty. The port is strategically located along the West African coastline and is poised to become a crucial hub for international trade. With China’s majority stake, the country will have a significant say in how the port is operated and what its role is in the global economy. This could give China undue influence over Nigeria’s economy and lead to economic exploitation.

The Seaport is expected to generate significant revenue, but the majority of this revenue will go to the Chinese consortium. This means that Nigeria will miss out on a major source of potential revenue that could be used to improve the country’s infrastructure and economy. Additionally, the project is expected to create jobs, but it is unclear how many of these jobs will go to Nigerians. This could lead to further economic inequality in Nigeria.

The Lekki Deep Seaport is a complex issue with no easy answers. However, it is important to be aware of the potential negative consequences of the project so that Nigeria can make informed decisions about its future.

Bro, even in the 50s and 60s, when Nigeria was operating a REGIONAL government, the most innovative and advanced region (remove Lagos), was Western Region of Nigeria;

All the best and the first in terms of development, was from that region;

1) Education; everybody across Nigeria aspire to come and study in Western region schools; it was like the abroad school of then to people of other parts of Nigeria from other regions.

2) The best Medical teaching was in UCH, Ibadan and best other courses was in UI.

3) First Television station in AFRICA, not Nigeria, started in Western region, Ibadan.

4) One of the tallest building in Nigeria then, was in Western region Ibadan.

5) The first stadium, was in Western region.

All indices of development then in the 50s/60s were in Western region, a region without crude oil then oooo, just relying on Agriculture export (Cocoa), but with leaders that had foresight.

Back to Lagos and your Capital Territory, bro Calabar was also a former capital territory, but how market The level of abandonment of Lagos when the capital moved to Abuja, it was only foresighted leaders that we have now, that managed to maintain its uniqueness.

The overpopulation on Lagos itself, don't you for once reason that it can and it is a burden on the resources and facility of the State.

Bro, don't hate the anointed!!!

true any little thing they just want to gloat about it, when you point out their wrong they tag you Igbo, I'm from Edo state, even the Lagos they all use to brag isn't even what a developed city should look like, and the fact still remains that even Lagos was being a former capital territory, contributed to it's more development than other states. I just dislike this people honestly.

Your mention of REGIONAL government really shows you have in-depth historical knowledge; remove Lagos, Western Region was the most developed region in the 1950/60s.

georgeakins:

We don't need you in our land.

Go back and build your port in your region .

What makes Lagos economy thick is not the importation of substandard Chinese products.

South West has been having the best economy during the regional government.
It was that reason Aguiyi Ironsi and his tribesmen abrogated regional govt because South East was the most backward.

Bro, it is you that don't understand that governance has evolved; their is PPP - Public Private Partnership in development. Their is Bilateral, multilateral model.

Take Western nations as an examy, the popular AirBus plane European airlines and others use, you know how many consortium with different stakes was involved in the development.

The build, manage, transfers model is also not new; most recent prison facilities in America are not built by the American government.

Bro, governance has evolved ooo, it takes creativity and wisdom to explore limitations in governance (dwindling resources) and maximize dividends of governance (partnership, leveraging etc).

It is what is been used to sustain the FG monthly allocation to other revenue moribund states in Nigeria. It is what is been used to sustain the influx of population that keep trooping to Lagos, infrastructure and service-wise;

(health, education, roads, transportation, services - waste management, traffic management, better and regular salary compared to other States, better/regular Pension) --- I mentioned things you can see, but so many others!!!
