Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who was illegally extradited from Kenya in 2021 has been discharged and acquitted by the Nigerian court for several months now. Yet, the then Muhammad Buhari refused to release him and since then MNK has remained in the DSS custody.

Let's even assume that Buhari had the right to hold on to MNK within the period of court proceedings against him. But after judgement was passed in favour of MNK and even damages awarded to him, it became unconstitutional for Buhari regime to still hold him in dungeon. Unfortunately, all the lawlessness and executive rascality of Buhari over MNK went on unchecked. Today, Buhari has left office and Tinubu has taken over.

The big question now is, under what legal premise is MNK still in prison under Tinubu regime? Of course, since the court have decleared him a free man, it is now clear that his release is solely with the permission and instruction of the president. So why has Tinubu not ordered DSS to let him go? MNK case is like a child held hostage in a room, when the people who held him moved out, a new tenant moved in, saw a child chained to the floor, the new tenant looked at the child, hissed and continued living with the child while he remained under hostage instead of raising alarm and calling for the child release. That is exactly what Tinubu is doing right now with MNK.

Today, South East have witnessed the height of political and economic sobotage orchestrated by armed men who constantly declear sit-at-home in the SE every Monday and sometimes for days. These killer squad do not only make statements, they match their statements with actions by killing innocent citizens who refuses to obey their sit at home order.

The once South Eastern region is now a hostile place, a terror ground flowing with blood of the innocent. The economic life of the SE have worsened since this madness began, yet federal and state governments are doing next to nothing to ensure an end to this unrest.

While I condemn the activities of these young men who wield gun and take the lives of innocent citizens not minding the economic hardship their action inflicts on the people of SE, I am also compelled to ask, why has Tinubu not ordered for the release of MNK so that SE can have peace again? At least, we can understand that MNK Carried out his civil disturbances under the Buhari regime, but for Tinubu, what is MNK offence to warrant him being in detention till now?

Before the attack dogs of Nairaland comes for my head, please instruct your pay lord to release MNK. At least he has not committed any known crime against Tinubu and his regime.

Everyone should contribute what they earn on Monday to fund his lawyers to test the mantle of our legal system by filling a 1 trillion dollar case against the Federal Republic of Nigeria for wrongful detention.
