The Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, has reiterated the commitment of the University management with the active support of the Board of Regents to advancing an ICT-driven education environment within the University, which will make students of the institution operate at the cutting edge of technology.

Professor Adebayo made the assertion during the commissioning of an ultra-modern, state-of-the-art computer laboratory for the College of Leadership Development Studies (CLDS) and the College of Management and Social Sciences (CMSS).

According to him, Covenant, since its inception, has been an ICT-driven institution, which has seen her win numerous ICT-related awards in years past, and the University will remain steadfast in maintaining that course.

Professor Adebayo said he was excited about the new laboratory, which is a product of the 75 million Naira award from the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) for emerging as the most compliant institution in keeping with the Admissions Guidelines of the 2020/2021 Admission Exercise.

"When we got the N75,000,000 award from JAMB, we felt the best thing to put the money into use was in consolidating our ICT resources, and today we are happy and excited that we have this computer laboratory with 100 high-end computers to serve the ICT needs of students in CLDS and CMSS," he enthused.

The Acting Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David, appealed to personnel in the Directorate of Centre for Systems and Information Services to ensure that the laboratory is put to best use in line with the expectations of the University with a view to enhancing learning and knowledge acquisition.

Mrs. Tobi-David tasked them with making routine maintenance a culture in the Directorate so that there would be no issue of a complete breakdown of systems.

The Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences (CMSS), Professor Abiola Babajide, thanked the University Management for deeming it necessary to bequeath a computer lab to the college and assured them that it would be put to best use. Professor Babajide, however, appealed for more, noting the population strength of the two colleges that are to share the facility.

The Director, Centre for Systems and Information Services (CSIS), Engineer Boladele Akanle, thanked the university management for choosing to invest the JAMB largesse on ICT matters, noting that Covenant is operating in a world that is ICT-driven and as such cannot afford to be lagging in her ICT resources.

Engineer Akanle noted that with the new laboratory coming on stream, the tech environment of the university will also witness an increase in activity as students will have more access to these tools for lectures and research purposes.

With the commissioning of the new laboratory, Covenant University now has computer laboratories with over 850 high-end systems to serve the University's academic and research endeavours across the various Colleges in the institution.

Very impressive that Prof Ishaq Oloyede, a moslem would let a Christian University win a jamb award. He is the type of Nigerian we should all aspire to be.

I am not happy with this news. Why would JAMB Institute such Award with the inclusion of Privately Owned Universities.

It is expected that Private Institutions should be well organized than public ones which are limited by beauricracy, irregularities of Government funding, subservient policies & epileptic subventions. Private Schools should have been excluded from the Award.

N75 million will do well for our struggling public Institutions

Is it a new thing for private sector to receive grant from FG. Think about Boeing, Pfizer, Harvard who collect billions from the US govt and return immense value to the American public. For Nigeria to succeed in its capitalism drive it must own the successes and failures if its private businesses.

Think about how Israel cofunded every tech startup in the 1900s which made it a technology behemoth we all admire today.

Its not ok enough to just call for businesses to succeed. Govt has to actively help with grants, tax rebates and so many other incentives.

BTW In case you don't know, the average public university is by far wealthier than the average private university.

Give same amount to the public university. You will not even hear anything after the cheque is cashed out. That's how corrupt our institutions are today.

The only little sanity left in this country exists in the private sector. Everywhere in the public sector is full of desperate thieves who see stealing as "grace" and "opportunity".

If the grant was awarded to the public universities, the money would have been embezzled or mismanaged by the corrupt "management" we have at the helm of those government-owned institutions.

For Oloyede to overlook public universities and favour a private institution instead, he must have seen and known a lot. He preferred to give the grant to private institutions who would be accountable for it. And the result is what we have seen here.

Government-owned institutions have been winning massive grants from international organizations since time immemorial. Yet, they have nothing to show for them.
