Why Sit-at-home In South East Is Not Affecting Nigeria’s Economy – Omokri by adenigga(m): 12:52pm On Jul 13, 2023
A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has said the sit-at-home orders in the South East cannot impact the national economy and will only continue to destroy the region’s economy.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle on Thursday, Omokri said the major reason the sit-at-home orders in the South East won’t affect the country’s economy is that no state in the region is in the top ten states of registered tax-paying businesses in the country.

Omokri said the current sit-at-home is a war the South East is having against itself, and the most significant economic effect it has on the rest of Nigeria is positive.

The social critic asserted that foreign and local investors are allegedly divesting from the Southeast and relocating to other stable geopolitical zones.

He wrote: “The attached image is the major reason why the sit-at-home currently going on in the Southeast geopolitical zone is not impacting the national economy and is only destroying their regional economy.

“Because of the top ten states with registered tax paying businesses in Nigeria, not a single one is in the Southeast. And of the top ten states that generate the highest internally generated revenue in the nation, none are from the Southeast.

“The current sit-at-home is a war the Southeast is having against itself, and the most significant economic effect it has on the rest of Nigeria is positive, in that foreign and local investors are divesting from the Southeast and relocating to other stable geopolitical zones.

“Please, this is not Igbo hatred. It is just the bitter truth based on facts that don’t lie!”

While he has a point, it is clear that this former Al Gore campaign intern and social media hitman for Jonathan has found a new vocation.

Reading between the lines, here, it will take a lot to convince me that he has not switched sides for monetary gain.

Once a maverick, always a maverick cool

He should tell us how it has affected SE. As SE continues to wax stronger despite sit at home propaganda narrative have changed that it doesn't affect the country. Isn't it because it doesn't affect SE in the first place?

Then why are non south easterners the most affected, to the extent that they are complaining more than south easterners themselves? It means some non Igbos are really affected
